Per @DFriedmanWFAN, Flyers deal for Mark Streit is for 4-years, $22M - FLYERSROCK!

I know isles fans think it's lunacy, but our D is a mess right now regarding puck moving.. we need someone like this or it'll be out of the playoffs again.. - Hextall271
Assuming Briere gets bought out, how will the cap be? |

He wanted 4 years, near $5mm with the Isles. Let's face it, he wasn't taking much less to come to terms here. - Jsaquella
you mean he wasnt going to take a home town discount to come here?

We'll see how he does. With the Isles, he was the captain and he had all the respect of the fans. He wont have that in Philly, but I think he'll be fine. I'm sure he'll be good, but still not sure if he's worth the years/money. - NYI44
He won't be worth it. But our hands our tied. Not the worst scenario at all |

So the choice was between signing a guy to a sunset contract or be forced to trade one of the kids?

If the $22mm is correct, they will still be over, by about $500K...although Pronger will immediately go on the LTIR, giving them nearly $5mm in relief. |

Depends which defenseman they trade, Meszaros or Coburn.

Not terrible. Hopefully Grossmann is able to play. His concussion/vision issues don't sound great. |

Well theoretically they could draft and develop a defensive corps. |

There was no possibility to trade for a young reclamation project or get a solid vet under contract for one of the lesser forwards or a pick |

Bryzgalov is gone, they will trade for another goalie or dip into the UFA pool to shore it up.
I could see Meszaros being shopped for a pick, and depending what else is out there, they could try to add another top 9 winger. |

I liked Bill's idea of getting Clitsome for a much smaller $ amount.
Can't wait to see what guys like Hainsey and Rosival will get.
Streit definitely fills a need here, but over 35 contracts are so risky, and this contract makes Bouwmeesters deal look decent.

Plus the Bonus cushion. Don't have to be at or under the Upper Limit. Just have to be Cap compliant. |

My guess,

Meszaros-Gus
I'm not confident Grossmann is going to be ready by the start of the season. |

I haven't seen an update on his condition in quite a while. So any of those details are old. I'm optimistic.
