I worry about the years in the context of the over 35 rule. That being said, he could be just fine and play all four seasons mostly injury free and it turns out to be a good deal. Timo did just fine playing till that age for the most part.
I guess we will see, it was a risk on the Flyers part but when have they not taken risks? Lets hope he stays relatively healthy. - MBFlyerfan
for the Flyers?

Yeah you're right. Every team in the league can take Pitt to 6 games with 2 OT games. What does the playoffs have to do with the shortened season? I understand getting into the playoffs, but once in the playoffs, the lockout can't be an excuse. - NYI44
Ill put it in this context. I think this team was just getting its act together by the time the season ended. Laviolette had finally adjusted the system to reflect the skill set of his players. Had this been a full season, I think they would have had plenty of time to turn it around.
I think the Isles would have still made the playoffs, and I think it would have been the Rangers who faltered.

We couldn't just sign Marc-Andre Bergeron like everyone else trying to bridge a gap? - dingo8urbaby
Sure, we could...but Marc-Andre Bergeron can't play 5v5.
At worst, Mark Streit is still a Top 6 defenseman. The Islanders had to play him more minutes because, to be honest, their options were even less appealing than the Flyers' in the bottom pair.
The Flyers can protect Streit a little better than the Islanders can, because no matter what anyone thinks of Kimmo Timonen, Luke Schenn and Nicklas Grossmann, those guys are more effective in the defensive and neutral zones than Joe Finley, Matt Carkner, and Thomas Hickey.
That's just a straight-up fact. Not ripping the Islanders, but that's a fact -- we can "hide" Streit better, take advantage of what he does well and minimize what he doesn't.

This.
If I saw one more puck lobbed 30ft up in the air into the neutral zone by a D man I was going to vomit. |

they better be
Streit's plus minus #s the last few seasons are not good |

Mark Streit signs 5.25 Million per. We're in OT of a regular season game. The other team takes a penalty and we have the man advantage, 4 on 3. Does Streit get to see play? |

You know what makes the case for not avoiding the UFA frenzy? That every top team has done it, and added key players to enable them to have success, through Free Agency. |

these little sound bites miss so much of the picture
a puck moving offensive defenseman is one of their biggest needs
and to get one they either had to over pay a UFA like Streit or trade away Couturier
come on Mr Mirtle, you should be smarter then that - Marc D
As one of the big proponents of advanced stats and information gathering in the MSM, Mirtle's tweet was simply him being cheeky. |

per Dreger;
Streit's agreement will also include a limited no-trade. He would submit a list of teams he would be willing to move to.

I look at it this way. On the Isles Streit was their #1, #2 guy on the blueline. On the Flyers he is a #4, #5 guy who gets power play minutes.
Different situation will mean different results. (i hope)
