4 years 20M i think tho i'm not sure at all - rangerdanger94
here it is from Meltzer
"Streit reportedly turned down a three-year, $15 million contract before deciding to test the open market"
so the guy the Isles fans are now saying sucks so bad, they were willing to give him $5M a year...
now that he is gone for 5.25, he is horrible

so the majority of the 10% you're allowed to go over is already gonna be taken up by pronger's cap hit? - rangerdanger94
Yep. But the buyouts of Briere and Bryzgalov will open up a lot of room, and if they trade a defenseman, such as Meszaros or Coburn, they will clear $4mm more. |

I wouldn't move Coburn at all. I think he's an ideal partner for Streit |

This is a great opportunity to take best D man available @ 11 and have him up and playing to replace Streit in a few years. - hereticpride
Exactly. We are "replacing" Kimmo for a few years to give the youngsters time to develop. Hope MAB's melon gets better. |

They offered him 3 yrs at 4.75 a year. Islander fans will tell you like we've been saying all year. Streit is still good on the PP and not very good in his own end. Nobody said he is an all around terrible player. Will all of the Isles D prospects making the jump in the next couple of years they didn't want to pay streit over 5 million for the next 4 years when his ES minutes were already being cut now, not to mention what will happen in the next couple of years. That's the reason they let him walk. |

I honestly think that with the premium that defenseman get paid over forwards, you have to make that part of the formula for determining "best player available"
if it is even close, they have to take a defenseman - Marc D
No doubt. Trading for a defenseman costs more. It's always Couts+ for Yandle, Schenn+ for Edler, etc. All picks are gambles, and now it's time to gamble on Risto, Zadorov, or Pulock.

Not really because a player on LTIR counts the same on the Cap as any other player does. What's going to take up a lot of the 10% is the new contracts for players such as Streit, and contracts that kick in for players such as Simmonds. What's really going to affect them is that they had so many injuries, that they'll have to account for some of the players on two way deals. Plus Bourdon's deal is one way for next Season. But the CBO on Briere, and Bryzgalov if true, will help a lot. I might spend some time and put together the Flyers off Season Cap picture, and post it later.

They could, but I'd be surprised if they had faith in Meszaros' health to use up $4mm in cap room...of course, if Grossmann can't start the season, they may need him - Jsaquella
And lord knows we don't need Gervais in the lineup. And I don't think MAB is well and Manning is an emergency call up. |

That, and the fact that the Flyers really need to move past the "guy has one bad season, we have to trade him immediately."
These guys are human. They get hurt. Sometimes, they're going to play very well. Sometimes they won't. But Braydon Coburn, to me, earned one bad season -- he's never been a real problem on the back end before, and at his age, there's every reason to expect either his normal season or, if the Flyers are lucky, a really strong bounceback season. |

If they move Meszaros, Gervais would be my 7th guy on paper, but in reality, I'd recall and play Lauridsen ahead of him |

Unless they can get a significant return, I see no reason to move him...if they can turn Coburn and the 11th pick into a top 5 pick, I'd do it, to get a shot at Nichushkin or Barkov, but otherwise, no. |

Agreed. Last year was terrible for him and many on the team, no way he repeats that performance. It's up to Lavi to put him in a position to succeed. He's got the skills, the speed, a nice shot, is big and strong...he just needs to be properly utilized. |

Well put. Who do you like more from a game stand point? Matt Carle or Mark Streit? - dingo8urbaby
Truthfully? They're probably about the same, as far as value is concerned.
Carle's better in his own end, though his mistakes are sometimes glaring.
Streit's got a better shot and is better offensively...we probably need Streit's best attributes more at this point in time than we did Carle's, if that makes sense. |
