It'll also be an 8 year deal, I could see them trying to give bridge deals to Couturier and Schenn. - Jsaquella
thats exactly how i would handle it. regardless of what echelon of forwards you view him in, he is the face of the franchise and has proven a decent amount already. no reason to mess around with anything but a max length deal.
the other two, while they have potential, i think a bridge deal is in the best interest of both parties. if they capitalize on their potential, then they cash in after a short period. if not, then its not an albatross of a deal |

I mentioned weeks ago this is what they should do. But will they? Are they even thinking about it? I wonder |

exactly. in the grand scheme of things, its only a marginal raise, and if the cap goes up it really wont make that big of a difference, so this way, barring the cataclysmic, 71 should retire a pen. now whether people believe he is worth it or not is up for debate i guess, but i fall on the side that he is.
letang is the goner. his increase will at least be double what he is currently making, and i just dont see how the pens fit him in. he had dollar signs in his eyes before the season even ended. im sure his eyes get greener by the day with guys like gonch and streit getting 5 a year. - stayinthefnnet
I would think Letang probably gets slotted a little below the Weber average salary, north of $7 million for sure. Does Shero trade him this summer and get value back, or reunite the band back together for one more run and may be get a draft pick for his negotiating rights next summer? |

I think they make room for Letang. Lose niskanen. Trim some more fat. You'll have plenty of dmen on entry level deals. You should be able to get it done |

in a perfect world, id love to see letang resigned. he drove me absolutely nuts this postseason, but i would still like him in the fold. however, i just dont see how it can happen. of all the guys on the team, he is the one that i see placing importance on squeezing out every buck he can, and if that is the case, there is no way the pens can offer him the most. im sure someone will throw out an 8 year 60 million dollar dear at him.
that being the case, id rather move him this offseason and try to maximize the return. there is some merit in trying to make one last push, but to me its just horrible asset management, as by that point he probably wont fetch a fraction of what he can now. |

They better be. They have 12 months to do it. |

eventually, if you trim enough fat you are down to the bone. its just hard to support a team with three 7 million plus deals on it.
and then it brings up the whole can of worms of if he is even worth the huge deal he is going to get. i love his positives, but i can go on for days about why he possibly may not be. |

i dont think this is something you get cute with. you have your young, star franchise captain center. you just buck up, pay the going rate, and go from there and build around him. lock him up for 8 years without blinking. |

I was referring to Couturier and Schenn. They're going to get Giroux locked up, I have zero doubt |

Jay Feaster on line #1 If he gets moved, got to believe it will be draft night. Wow, kind of crazy to see Jordan Staal and possibly Letang moved in consecutive draft nights. |

Homer should be on the line with Feaster. 41st, Mesz and a later pick for 28th overall. |

Well I know that but I meant holmer making a push to bridge them this summer. Don't give them an opportunity to rebound off down years. Sign them to real cap friendly 3 year deals this summer |

ah yeah. such is the reality in a cap world. although staals really wasnt money related, but still. id never complain about having crosby and malkin, but it does present a challenge in filling out the rest of the lineup. cant just pull a yankees and buy everyone.
which is what makes a potential return for letang interesting. an established stud player would be nice, but if it costs the same youre still in the same boat. need to try to get young quality assets that are manageable. definitely not easy. |

not crazy about a four year deal for a 35+ year old d-man. hopefully he stays healthy and helps the team. more moves are coming obviously. i am in now way shape or form sold on the idea of bringing in bernier to compete with mason - especially at the cost of moving read. no thanks.
things just seem more and more misguided as the days go by. i'm beginning to fear the meat of this offseason. |

Id rather see them signed before an offer sheet drifts in, for sure. |

Also, Schenn would have to have one hell of a breakout offensive season in 2013-14 to get any major cap hit increase on his ELC deal. Ditto Couturier. I'm not all that concerned about the Flyers getting extensions done with both players. The Read situation is trickier with him being eligible for UFA status after next season.

Very true on the Staal situation. What's your gut feeling- Dupuis, Cooke and Morrow - who stays, who goes? |

if there was a feasible deal to be had, i wouldnt mind trying to get bernier on the pens as a long term option. im still really surprised that there is a lot of ride it out with mason sentiment |

He could see a big raise...I do think there's something to the Read for Bernier rumors. They move him out, sign a more traditional 3rd liner(i.e. bigger dude) and Homer gets his goalie and the size he spoke of earlier |

So the Streit signing is legit? 4 yrs/5.25??
I can handle that I guess. Could have been much worse. The 4 year part I"m a little wary on though....
Interesting to see what happens with Meszaros now. Without looking it up because I'm a lazy piece of poop, 5.25 is about Mez money, yeah? |

hes only on a 1 yr deal. not much to ride out, and he was really, really good in the 7 games he played for the flyers at the end of the season, so it's encouraging. |
