Very true on the Staal situation. What's your gut feeling- Dupuis, Cooke and Morrow - who stays, who goes? - ravishingone
dupuis HAS to stay. there is no way around it. obviously he is going to get a raise, as his 1.5 mil salary is ridiculous. he probably wants at least a three year deal, and shero is typically hesitant about giving them to mid 30s guys, but id make the exception here. id give him 3 years at 3 million each no questions asked. even then, im sure he can get more elsewhere. im sure there will be plenty of eh he just rides crosbys coattails, but the fact is the guy is criminally underrated.
id be all for keeping cooke as well, provided its reasonable.
morrow, hed have to be pretty cheap for me to be interested. he had a nice end to the regular season, but looked laughably slow in the post season. the more i think about that trade, the more bitter it makes me. |

if there was a feasible deal to be had, i wouldnt mind trying to get bernier on the pens as a long term option. im still really surprised that there is a lot of ride it out with mason sentiment - stayinthefnnet
I'm fine because he's on a one year deal and showed promise. Jeff Reese has had success with every goalie they have brought in, except one and generally guys that have come in and listened to what he's said have shown marked improvement.
Mason has more natural talent than the other guys he's worked with, except Bobrovsky, so it's encouraging. |

hes only on a 1 yr deal. not much to ride out, and he was really, really good in the 7 games he played for the flyers at the end of the season, so it's encouraging. - hammarby31
i guess my standpoint is based mostly around the fact that i am definitely on the bernier bandwagon. i understand he doesnt have a large track record, but i just think he is about as surefire as they come for young goalies (granted, i realize that lines been uttered and regretted many times, but im a sucker for this one) |

yeah. who knows. maybe all he needed was a fresh start. the talent was there at one point. i definitely understand how large a role the mental aspect can be for a goalie (paging marc andre)
to me though, its not every day a young stud tender hits the market. and if read can get it done, yeah it sucks to lose him, but its not as though it decimates the young core, especially when you consider that read may be one of the tougher resigns. |

He could see a big raise...I do think there's something to the Read for Bernier rumors. They move him out, sign a more traditional 3rd liner(i.e. bigger dude) and Homer gets his goalie and the size he spoke of earlier - Jsaquella
Ugh. It's pretty good value for read, but I'm a little sickened thinking about it. Read just does everything. He might be our only true sniper |

I'm open to Bernier, even for Read. There's a risk, but there's always a risk |

true. i think this is one time where you take the plunge. like i said, if there was a feasible way for him to land in pitt, id strongly consider it. as much as i love the guy, possibly move/buy out fleury and go with bernier, with vokoun around for one more year to ease him into it. |

If I was the Pens, I'd be buying out Fleury, which would open a door. |

yeah. its hard. fleury was always a personal favorite of mine, but it may just in fact be time to move on. i dont know what the pens could deal for bernier though. im sure LA would ask for bennett, and at the risk of sounding hypocritical, id have to pass. |

i've seen him play only a few times...have no feel for his game at all. his size concerns me most, and given he doesn't really have a track record, i'm not keen on giving up a talented, versatile, more proven commodity in matt read to get him. if he goes on to become a franchise goalie and wins some hardware along the way, then it's worth it, but it's hard to feel confident he'll become that player. at this piont, i have zero faith in any goalie moves the flyers make. i just assume they will implode. |

Bennett's what, 20? 21? Read is 27...I totally get that. That's the other strike on Read, that he's a bit older. |

So the Streit signing is legit? 4 yrs/5.25??
I can handle that I guess. Could have been much worse. The 4 year part I"m a little wary on though....
Interesting to see what happens with Meszaros now. Without looking it up because I'm a lazy piece of poop, 5.25 is about Mez money, yeah? - Giroux_Is_God
You guys here are way too optimistic if that's what it is.
4 years for another 35+ guy was too much. I just feel like the Flyers are the awkward nerd in HS that has to pony up jewelry and cash to get the pretty girl to go out with him. I just hope Streit can keep himself healthy and fit. If he can sustain a certain level like Timonen has been, we might not suffer too much. But that is asking a lot given the Flyers luck. |

Either would be ok with me but are distant seconds to Boomshock Halak. |

And draft Austin Lotz you can't leave that out. - ob18
I happen to have a sense of realism that he wouldn't be NHL ready for a number of years. There is no instant NHL starter out of juniors. |

The only negative with Halak is he's in the last year of a manageable deal. Not sure what he'd cost, but St Louis has a glut of goalies and Hitchcock and Halak have butted heads. |

I'm not as concerned about his size as long as he has really quick lateral quickness and really challenges shooter outside of the paint a la Tim Thomas. If they want Bernier better get him this offseason because I find it hard to believe he will be back in LA. |
