The only negative with Halak is he's in the last year of a manageable deal. Not sure what he'd cost, but St Louis has a glut of goalies and Hitchcock and Halak have butted heads. - Jsaquella
Meh. One year goalies work great for us. |

I'm not as concerned about his size as long as he has really quick lateral quickness and really challenges shooter outside of the paint a la Tim Thomas. If they want Bernier better get him this offseason because I find it hard to believe he will be back in LA. - ravishingone
he won't be back. he has to move on. let's say the cost to land bernier was the same as luongo - purely hypothetical. which one do you want? |

They'll trade Cal Heeter and he'll win 8 striaght Vezinas - Jsaquella
I'm waiting for Hovinen to win some kind of tough guy game show akin to MXC and reading a lot of whining about it. |

Holmgren sucks they signed this guy over Eriksson and then waived him and now he's winning Wing Bowl |

What the hell is wrong with fleury - Just5
christ if only i knew. dude has all the talent in the world, but is just shredded between the ears anymore. i dont know if he will ever recover enough to be depended upon. cant waist too many years of the crosby and malkin era waiting on your goalie to "find himself", regardless of how good a guy he is |

Delusions of grandeur, thinking he's an NHL goalie - Flyskippy
yeah.... he did pretty well for a while there. im sorry, id never claim he was up there with guys like hank and quick even at his peak, but during a few playoff runs, and even recently during large stretches of the regular season, he has shown he can still be pretty good. for someone to use just statistics, it will never show the whole story with him.
however, dont crucify me too much for being a fleury apologist, as none of the things i just spouted off mean a damn thing anymore. right now, there is clearly something wrong with him. |

Bennett's what, 20? 21? Read is 27...I totally get that. That's the other strike on Read, that he's a bit older. - Jsaquella
yeah, the age comes into it definitely, but also because he is by far the only young forward they have worth a damn. the flyers have a stockpile of youth, so i think they could absorb the loss much better. |

Such a tough question to answer, unknown ceiling over experience. If everything is equal (contract length and value relatively close), I'm choosing Bobby Lu. Mainly because I know this guy for sure is going to be great in the locker room and nothing in the media is going to faze him. At 34, still think there is enough in the tank to be effective. My number 2 choice is Bernier followed by Halak.
I'd be satisfied with Bobby Lu or Bernier with Mason. |

They add a few minor pieces. Buyout Bryz and Briere. Make one trade to free up more space for a pick.
Get to camp and realize Mason is the bomb. - stveshdy
i think they are going to make a splash w/ a scoring winger, dman or draft pick...something significant. |

I'd hope so. All those damned centers they have drafted over the years |

haha yeah. call me crazy but i still think thats the way to win. center depth and go from there. i think the output will be much higher with an above average center flanked by average wingers than quality wingers relying on mediocre centers.
although a goalie who can stop every other puck in the playoffs would be beneficial too haha |

I'm open to Bernier, even for Read. There's a risk, but there's always a risk - Jsaquella
I'm on board with this. Bernier has some real talent and is NHL ready. Flyers I'd assume would lock him up on a 3 year contract. |

I would strongly consider offer-sheeting Bernier. I mentioned Svedberg in the blog today, because he's a young, NHL-unproven goalie that I'm high on.

despite the extremely low success rate of this type of acquisition method?

It's an interesting situation. Couldn't the 7 day waiting period be a little tricky, if by some wacky chance LA matches. Missing out on other potential replacements for Bryz, no matter how unlikely LA would match. |

i dont know why, but for some reason i just hate the idea of offer sheets. i fully admit, i have no justifiable reason for this, but they just seem Richardish to me. but hey, they are in the rules, and in this case it makes perfect sense. i cant see LA wanting to match what the flyers would likely offer, as that would be a lot for a backup, but i doubt the flyers offer so much that the picks going back the other way would be devastating |
