1. Bernier (trade or OS),
2. post-CBO Luongo (on cheap contract),
3. Keep Bryzgalov. - Tomahawk
I can't see keeping Bryz under any circumstance. The contract is an albatross. His performance against the dollars is weak. He is a distraction to the team. If we don't use the CBO and he gets injured we are hosed. Just too many reasons not to keep him. Same for Danny. I loved him on the team for a long time and still do from some aspects. But his lack of regular season performance. His age. His defensive liability. And his cap hit just don't outweigh the good. These CBO's are like golden do over tickets to these GMs. Every team gets a chance to get rid of their bad contracts. No way anyone should not take advantage of them. |

That is a factor, but what Mason has had that Bobrovsky didn't have at the time, was a full Season playing at a high level in the NHL. Mason is still only 25. I'd prefer if Bryzalov is gone, that they give Mason a shot, instead of trading valuable assets to acquire another Goalie. It's clear that Mason has talent and athletic ability. - MJL
Yea I'd rather not trade for another goalie. If they amnesty bryzgalov do what that they can in free agency and go from there. |

I don't want them to trade valuable assets for another goalie either. |

I think they have to buyout Bryz at this point. If they keep him for one more season it will be under the pretense that he will be bought out after next season. I don't like the prospect of Bryz playing an entire season for us knowing he will be bought out in the offseason. |

No mention of Mike Smith?
There is always a possiblilty Smith signs somewhere other than Phoenix and there is also a possibilty Bryz gets bought out and goes back to Phoenix. I Smith Signed in Philly and Bryz went back to Phoenix wouldn't that be funny. |

hate the idea of Tim Thomas playing for the Flyers myself - Marc D
A 39 year old goalie who hasn't played an NHL game in over a year? What could go wrong?

I'd go the trade route for Bernier only. And not my first choice unless you can OS him. |

Esche's 2004 performance was the best playoffs a Flyers goalie has had since I became a fan 20 years ago. - Feanor
He was solid in that run until the T bay series I thought. Could have been due to the patch work Defense we had at that point though. |

The Kings are going to want a lot for him. The speculated cost (Matt Read) is too high. |

What would be even funnier would be if Bryz went back to Phoenix and regained his Vezina nominee form... |

I don't want to see them give up valuable assets for an as yet unproven goalie. If they can OS him fine, if not, there are other options.
And I may be in the minority, but I am thinking about a harmonious locker room as much as I am about the player himself. I want two guys both fighting for ice time on merit, not one guy or the other female doging because he isn't the starter because that is why you signed me right?
Bernier will be too expensive IMO if you go the trade route, and if they go that way it better be for a known commodity.

Sorry, we can't justify trading Couturier for Bill Cosby's little brother. It's like having Wayne and someone offering you Keith. |

I think if Bryzgalov is not bought out later this month, I think it means that the Flyers are open to keeping him long term. |

Are we really putting that much stock in Mason's last 8 games vs. the rest of his career?
He should be the back-up heading into the season. - bradleyc4
Why has Mike Smith not been mentioned? This guy is a monster and apparently his work ethic and fitness levels are off the charts. Tippett has a great system but let me tell you Smith absolutely stole half a dozen games each of the last two years. |

Michael Leighton could win the Vezina behind a Tippett-coached team. |

Smith IMO is a "system" goalie just like Bryz. Im not sure he would be so successful here. |

I think it means he has one more year to prove himself but I will bet he is gone either this year or next year for sure.
Let's face it the guy is bad mouthing Philly in Russia and does not want to play here anymore but he is in the drivers seat. Worst signing ever. |
