Any chance Vancouver would do Coburn+11th for Edler? |

I wouldn't. Not with Streit, unless major blue line changes were coming, I.e. Coburn and Meszy traded. |

Edler is a #1 dman. Cobrun is a #3 dman, Vancouver gets a future 1st or 2nd line player also.
i think an offer that would be more tempting for them would be Coburn+11th+Gus/Cousins/Akeson/McGinn/Ghost for Edler+24th |

Truthfully, I hope not -- the reason you sign Mark Streit is so you don't have to trade the 11th pick for a high-salaried player.
I could see them doing that deal to move up in the draft for a player they want, but not for a player as old as Edler -- not that he's ancient, but I think the Flyers braintrust realizes they need a first-round pick this year.
At least, I hope they do. Because they do. |

Exactly. And it should be a defenseman. |

That's what I would do, no doubt about it. Now is the time to take a shot at drafting our franchise d-man as opposed to giving up multiple assets for a single player. You just can't get ahead if you're consistently doing that. |

I'm with you, man -- the only thing worse than trading Sean Couturier before we know what he is, is trading this freaking pick for a player whose rights we don't control for seven years.
The Flyers need to suck it up, identify the best player with the most upside -- hopefully/preferably a defenseman -- draft the guy and develop him. I don't care if you need to hire "Coach X Responsible For Nothing Else But Making Sure The 11th Pick Overall Becomes A Top 4 Defenseman."
If that's what you need to do, then damn it, they better do that.

Yup, we're on the same page, man. We apparently have a solid shot at a real good player in a deep draft pool. We picked the right year to not make the playoffs and fill an organizational need. No pick is guaranteed - there are just way too many variables that cannot be factored - but it's time to bite the bullet, narrow down the pick to a few d-men, and get it done. |

How about Bernier, Willie Mitchell, and Alec Martinez for the Schenn brothers and Bryzgalov? Then you can let LA buy out that poop contract for you. |

Ha! Well, thanks for the kind offer, but if the Flyers know how to do one thing well, it's write checks.

How about no. Luke Schenn is the staple for this blue line for the foreseeable future. |

Sure, but with Streit now in the fold why give up the pick? You have a year left of Timonen, throw in a miracle maybe two. Streit has 4 years left, if that. We need D for the future and I think they'll be a few good choices at 11. The only way I trade that pick is if I get another late 1st very early 2nd |

Ok I'm bored. I'll play. You asked what was the talent level like on the Phantoms didn't you? If it was poor, who's fault is that? - PLindbergh31
The question was rhetorical to point something out to you. When you used the Phantoms record to try and knock Murray as a Coach.

It's signed. Flyers have to get under the cap before announcing it. Once they buyout Briere which will be soon that contract of Streit will be on the books. - stveshdy
No it's not signed. It may be a verbal agreement, but it can't be signed. And no contract is valid until it is sent to Central Registry, and approved by the League. |
