Edler is a #1 dman. Cobrun is a #3 dman, Vancouver gets a future 1st or 2nd line player also.
i think an offer that would be more tempting for them would be Coburn+11th+Gus/Cousins/Akeson/McGinn/Ghost for Edler+24th - FLYERSROCK!
That's really awful asset management.
Edler isn't a number one defenseman. He's a good solid defenseman, but he's not a bona fide number one. Trading Coburn and the 11th pick for him is not a smart plan. |

Nature of the business. When the Flyers were trying to sneak Randy Freakin' Jones through recall waivers a few years because they were racked with injuries on the blueline, did ol' pal Lombardi do Homer a favor or did he claim Jones for LA, leaving the Flyers with half of Jones' cap hit? - bmeltzer

Not to mention, you just know you're going to end up watching Gus go on to win a Norris Trophy and/or Stanley Cup playing w/ the Sedins while some grave misfortune befalls Monsieur Edler, right? |

Wow. A defenseman coming off his worst year, a 1st round pick, a possible future top-3 puck-moving defenseman (who actually outplayed Edler for the time they were together on Sweden), a guy who was one of the leading scorers in juniors, a good young 3rd liner, another possible top-3 puck-moving defenseman (and our best hope at a home-grown defenseman in years) for a guy who is not a true #1 defenseman (top-pair, but not elite) and a late first-rounder?
Yes, that's a fantastic offer. |

- Streit is useless

- Crosby sucks (probably in there somewhere)
- The Flyers still suck
- Trade roster and future for Edler
- Streit is old and useless |

Me? No. My wife & child-to-be do!
3 hours of waiting at home still before heading out. Then 3 hours until the procedure. I'm more antsy now than on my 10th Christmas Eve when I asked for a bike and 'The Empire Strikes Back' Atari game. |

Highly doubtful. - FLYERSROCK!
It just can't really be predicted. Edler himself was a 3rd round pick. |

Yup. Wife asked if I thought it was a good contract, I said ask me in December this year, and next year, and the year after that... |

Knowing the Flyers luck, the 4th rounder they traded will be the new Chris Pronger in 2 years time. |

At least they traded a 4th round pick to get these exclusive negotiating rights! |

I agree that Edler is a #1 D man. But he is not on the level of Timonen in his prime. So that's a pretty drastic overpayment. I like Edler a lot. But I wouldn't make that deal. |
