It is a plain and simple math problem really, and due to the changes with these CBO's, it makes no sense to not buy him out. I certainly appreciate what he has given and wish him well. I don't think a guy looking at the possibility of getting 2/3 of a multi million dollar contract for free can really be described as having '(frank)ed himself over'.

Mason will turn some heads this year, just a feeling, nothign to really back that up except his few games with you last year.

All we've heard is that a few of his teammates don't like him. So what! He's not the first player we've heard that about and won't be the last. If he had a 2.25 GAA and .920 SV%, I bet they'd like him more! And the players don't play for him. They play for the Flyers.

Agreed. Maybe there's small consideration paid to him being a 'distraction', but I think the major factors in a buyout are obvious: level of play and consistency versus the big commitment that is his contract, and the dangers of the cap recapture rule.
