Does that crystal ball of yours tell you when the Blues are going to beat the Kings in the playoffs?
See what the Flyers have to deal with? The Flyers traded a fourth-round pick for a guy his previous team wasn't going to sign.
Previous team gets asset for something they no longer wanted. Good for them. Flyers get asset they wanted. Good for them.
In a cap world, Flyers sign player they paid an asset for to a contract they wanted.
Now, the previous team is talking like they've owned the Flyers for the last 15 years when the reverse has clearly been true, and most of them can't fathom how a guy who played 23 minutes a night for them could possibly have any value for another team. Nope. No value whatsoever.
Meanwhile, fans of other teams are ready to predict the Flyers' future. Amazing stuff.
The Islanders should be happy for getting an asset. Instead, all kinds of craziness has ensued, again, over A GUY YOU GUYS DIDN'T WANT.
Right? You didn't want him, right? So why are you guys so sensitive?
You should be glad that the Flyers will be in cap hell (even though they won't be). You should be glad that the guy who played 23 minutes a night for you -- but couldn't actually play -- is gone!
You guys heard from the Blues fan: Dark, dark days are heading the Flyers' way.
You guys all believe that. Right? Everybody believes that the Flyers are heading down. Right? - AllInForFlyers
no one is being sensitive...youre the one on the isles thread...legit EVERY islanders fan is THRILLED with the deal streit signed both for him and the islanders. find 1 isles fan that thinks the isles are missing out.
and to further prove that a lot of us are legit happy hes gone, go back to last years trade deadline and see how many of us wanted him gone, before the flyers trading for him was in the picture..

I don't expect the Isles to be in the top 4 of their conference next year, they might be a 7-8 seed again, but as each year goes on and the young talent matures, we're going to be better. I'll take the bright future, young talent and lots of cap space, rather than a juggling act each offseason to try and remain under the cap and fill a number of holes. - Isles_since_6

Personally I think it will be much tougher for the Isles to make the PO's this coming season and here's why.

lol. The Flyers aren't a playoff team, and the only reason they aren't in cap hell right now because they got lucky they were given a couple compliance buyouts. If you can't see the humor in the fact the Flyers are lucking out with getting to buy their way out of the problems they created for themselves, and turning around and doing the same thing over again, that's your loss. |

The guy's gone. He's gonna suit up for the Flyers, and they're going to try to put him in a position to be successful. Will they? Who knows? Maybe, just maybe, the Flyers can find out how to salvage what they need from the Worst Player in NHL History to Play 23 Minutes a Night!

Got lucky with compliance buyouts...you mean the ones that are available to every single team in the league?
That's not luck. That's the collective bargaining agreement. The Flyers are using it to their advantage, which is their right.
Instead of worrying about how the Flyers "aren't a playoff team," maybe you should be more concerned about how burning your first round pick for Jay Bouuwmeester and your second-round pick for Jordan Leopold got you a whopping two wins in the playoffs that you did make. |

I think it would be worth it. Aquiring a solid young netminder who just might end up being great, to grow with this young team is worth parting with Nino and the 15th. - canadianpenfan
Giving up the 15th & Nino says we have zero faith in the 4 goalies we have in the system & we are going to move into the future with Bernier. The kid may turn out being good, but we aren't a good goaltender away from being great.. we have time to let our own goalie prospects develop... Nino & our first is just too much for a goalie that could come to the Isles and cr@p the bed as a starter.

The cap could have easily gone down for other reasons, in which case the Flyers would still be screwed but not have compliance buyouts. So yes, Flyers are lucky they are getting a chance to buy their way out of mistakes. Especially considering most teams don't need buyouts, it's just the fail GM's who do. The fact some of the other teams made similar mistakes and are lucking their way out of them doesn't change Flyers being lucky to get the opportunity.
And I can see how not having draft picks might be a concern to a team in your position, but that's not the Blues. We have one of the top ranked prospect pools already. (Check hockeysfuture, you'll find your team ranked absolutely last.) Not to mention the fact we don't have anyone to worry about retiring or declining anytime soon, as the Flyers do. We aren't the Flyers, we can afford to trade away draft picks to fill holes. |

Brian Strait averaged 3 more minutes per game during the playoffs than Streit. Should we ready his 4 year $22 million extension?

Unbelievable.
It was amazing earlier in this thread when a fan of the Edmonton Oilers was trash-talking the Flyers. While it was amusing, at least they could point to their rich and storied history and say they remember when the Oilers were great.
Now, Flyers fans are getting lectured about how to run a successful franchise by fans of the St. Louis Blues?
Seriously? A fan of the St. Louis Blues is giving the Flyers crap over signing a guy?
The Blues don't even have a history. They don't. What does a fan of the St. Louis Blues have to say to anyone in the entire National Hockey League? What do the Blues know about winning?
Wow. That is just...wow.
