Islanders won't bag Saad. Hawks actually have a fit and need for him. Bernier on the other hand, is available to be had. - blacksheep1

True and a very good post.
Personally I think it will be much tougher for the Isles to make the PO's this coming season and here's why.
Last year's shortened season was a yoke around the neck of teams with any significant injury problems.
Who's to say what this yr brings but does anyone believe that NJ, Philly and Carolina will not rebound this coming season? Shouldnt Winnipeg improve also?
Ottawa should be healthy again and a much stronger team.
I doubt Washington, Montreal and Toronto will stand Pat. Look for them to improve this summer.
History and our impending move to Brooklyn suggests we more than likely will not make any impact moves this summer.
Having made the PO's this past season the Isles will have additional pressure to do it again.
I'm still not convinced that KO and Bailey have gotten over the hump. Every yr we see encouraging play and glimpses of talent. Usually during the tail end of the season. Happened again this past season. Difference was it counted this time. They need to be consistent for a full season. Not the usual 3-4 -5 weeks.
That being said. If we dont make the PO's next yr I wouldnt consider it regression because this past 48 game season was an anomaly. A good one for us but an anomaly none the less. - SCLI
I don't know...I think the new blood in the division throws a bit of a wrinkle into it all...and I think it might help the Isles a little bit. Instead of just running the gauntlet all season with the Pens (little chance of winning), Flyers (never really play them well), Rangers (always a crapshoot against them) and Devils (might finally, maybe, possibly be on the decline for real this time...but they've come back from the dead more times than Jason), the Isles will have Carolina, Washington and Columbus thrown in the mix. Not that any of those three will be easy victories by any means, but it frees the Isles up a little from the tombstone over all of their preseason predictions from the last several years -- playing in the dreaded Atlantic Division.

Unbelievable.
It was amazing earlier in this thread when a fan of the Edmonton Oilers was trash-talking the Flyers. While it was amusing, at least they could point to their rich and storied history and say they remember when the Oilers were great.
Now, Flyers fans are getting lectured about how to run a successful franchise by fans of the St. Louis Blues?
Seriously? A fan of the St. Louis Blues is giving the Flyers crap over signing a guy?
The Blues don't even have a history. They don't. What does a fan of the St. Louis Blues have to say to anyone in the entire National Hockey League? What do the Blues know about winning?

Im perfectly fine trading both the 1st and Nino but with that being said, Garth shouldn't make it easy to get both... Try a lesser prospect and work his way up to Nino. |

So, what team do you have to cheer for in order to say something critical on a non-Flyer blog?

That's a lesson for all. If you root for a team that hasn't had much success in its existence then you can't possibly know anything about hockey and you can never second guess a move made by other teams |

Blues don't have a history? You do realize the only reason the "Broad Street Bullies" happened was because the Flyers owner was tired of seeing his team get the snot beat out of them by the Blues, right?
Flyers won the cup over 30 years by building their team in response to the St. Louis Blues. They've done nothing special sense then. Your Welcome.
Flyers make some poor contract decisions. That's why they have to buy their way out of them. They just did it again. Sorry it bothers you to have it pointed out. |

Streit fills a huge need as a defenseman that can move the puck and QB the 2nd PP. That was an area that needed the most help, even outside of a goaltender IMO and most knowledgeable Flyers fans understand that.

You know what? Criticism is fine -- just make it be rational. People get it -- the term of the deal is too long. Nobody's even disputing that.
It's a message board. Nobody expects "fair and balanced."
But is Paul Holmgren really "the worst GM in the league?" Really? Seriously? Because his two conference finals appearances, one Stanley Cup final appearance and three 100-point seasons beg to differ -- and, for the record, that's one more Stanley Cup appearance than the St. Louis Blues have ever made!
But the Islanders offered three years, $15 million JUST TWO WEEKS AGO. Let's not act like, all of a sudden, Mark Streit's an NHL Pariah, a Leper who can't put on a pair of skates.
Let's not act like Islanders fans didn't cross over into Flyers threads when Streit got moved. The board doesn't lie, people!

Islanders PointBlank is reporting Islanders are interested in the Black Hawks Saad also.. - kear20
They tried to acquire him at the trade deadline. I doubt this happens because Chicago doesnt want to trade him. Would have to definitely overpay to pry him away from Chicage |

You forgot Montreal having already bought out Gomez. Unfortunately, even assuming you are right, that still puts you at 8/30. Meaning my statement stands. Majority of teams don't need them. - Antilles
I forgot Dipietro and Redden. Teams may not use them but that's when the recapture penalty kicks in. Detroit has to worry about that with Zetterberg and Franzen. Chicago has to worry about that with Hossa. Buffalo has to worry about that with Ehrhoff. New Jesery has to worry about it Kovalchuk. Vancouver has to worry about it with Luongo and Washington has to worry about it with Ovechkin.
So again you theory is way off base. The majority of teams have contracts they have to wrry about. |

they'll never get Saad. Price would be insane. Bernier wouldn't cost as much. But I'd love to have both. |
