Hey, if Flyers fans are jumping for joy over the deal, then good for them. I know we're glad that Snow didn't do it, so everyone's happy.

I think the emergence of Nelson made Nino Expendable.
Plus Nino doesnt fit the Isles Player profile. everyone works for what they get, Nino thinks he deserves it.
If Give up nino gets us a high profile Goalie or Dman i think Snow will make the move.
Snow has been great till now, dont see why that would change.
As for Streit, Thank you for you time as an Islander but He'll be a Philly buy out in year 3 or 4.
No Philly fan should be commenting. Holgrem traded Richard and Carter that both went on to win a CUP. He got rid of Boborvsky and he won the Vezina. anyone sensing a pattern here? - Spartiarti

It really is a good deal you just don't understand why. I'm going to take the next 12 pages to show you. |

You know what? Criticism is fine -- just make it be rational. People get it -- the term of the deal is too long. Nobody's even disputing that.
It's a message board. Nobody expects "fair and balanced."
But is Paul Holmgren really "the worst GM in the league?" Really? Seriously? Because his two conference finals appearances, one Stanley Cup final appearance and three 100-point seasons beg to differ -- and, for the record, that's one more Stanley Cup appearance than the St. Louis Blues have ever made!
But the Islanders offered three years, $15 million JUST TWO WEEKS AGO. Let's not act like, all of a sudden, Mark Streit's an NHL Pariah, a Leper who can't put on a pair of skates.
Let's not act like Islanders fans didn't cross over into Flyers threads when Streit got moved. The board doesn't lie, people! - AllInForFlyers
First off, Holmgreen has one of the easier GM positions in hockey with an Open check book and an easy sell to FA with Philly.
Second, the Isles offered 3 years $4.7 max for their captain and a guy they owed. They originally started around 2 years with $4 per.

But to fit this new contract into your cap structure, you have to buy out a very good player (yes a declining player) from your roster in Danny Briere so in essence you traded a player a pick & Briere for the right to over pay a 4-5 d-men to play your second PP unit?? This was a good move?? an upgrade??
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
Danny Briere doesn't fit on the Flyers' top six anymore. That's simply the way the Flyers' roster is constructed for the 2013-14 season -- he was getting bought out, no matter who they acquired. It happens -- Jarome Iginla maybe won't be back in Pittsburgh, because the fit doesn't appear to be there.
That doesn't mean that Mark Streit isn't a better fit for what the Flyers need for their defense corps -- It's clear for anyone who watches the team that Streit fits a need there!

Again, you're not understanding because you choose not to understand:This deal works for the FLYERS. He fits what THEY need. Does Mark Streit fit what the Islanders need in moving forward? No, he doesn't.
But for what the Flyers need -- he does. He is a fit for the SPECIFIC ROLE they need him to play! - AllInForFlyers
Gotcha. So the Flyers need a 35 year old Dman who hasn't had a good season in 3 years for 5.5 million for four years for their 2nd PP unit and as a 4th Dman? Yeah, I'm still not getting it? Are you sure maybe you're chosing not to understand something here, maybe? |

B/c Nelson was last pick in 1st round of same draft as Nino and he already better than him.
Nelson plays two way game and comes from Great pedigree of Hockey.
We are depth at foward is my point. If i could keep Nino i would but if i get a good return for him im open.
Do you think Nino is worth losing KO, Bailey, Cizikis, Grabner, Strome, Ullstrom or Even this kid Sundstrom that improved alot in bridgeport?
My point is you cant live in a fantasy world where you dont have to trade anything to get as superstar. If Isles want Bernier, its going to cost something. |

I forgot Dipietro and Redden. Teams may not use them but that's when the recapture penalty kicks in. Detroit has to worry about that with Zetterberg and Franzen. Chicago has to worry about that with Hossa. Buffalo has to worry about that with Ehrhoff. New Jesery has to worry about it Kovalchuk. Vancouver has to worry about it with Luongo and Washington has to worry about it with Ovechkin.
So again you theory is way off base. The majority of teams have contracts they have to wrry about. - blacksheep1
But the Isles don't NEED to buy out DP like the Flyers NEED to buyout their players, i think that was the point

I guess my point is only this...
Are they ever going to be sold on the kids in the system? Poulin hasn't done himself any favors and I don't know anything about the others.
Bernier is ready now and will be good for a long time imo. I believe it's worth parting with Nino, only because I don't think he'll be as good as many of you are hoping.
It's just one mans opinion. - canadianpenfan
Poulin looked really good until he had his freak knee injury
and Nilsson looked real promising and still does the only question is his Vitamin B deficiency disease. |

Ullstrom or Kabanov. - blacksheep1
I guess we have to see what other teams are looking to acquire Bernier and figure out what they are going to offer. I would think Ullstrom and #15 overall in this draft is a decent yield for a back-up goaltender for LA, but other teams may be willing to pay more. |

Ha! Hilarious -- I don't mind talking hockey all day in a message board. People are quoting me and asking questions, giving as good as they get. I'm not calling anyone horrible names or anything of the sort, and this is the most posts an Islanders thread has had in...I don't know how long.
So what's the problem? Talking hockey on a hockey board isn't what the purpose of these forums are for?
Seems to me that you're cool when people rip other teams...but not so cool when fans of other teams respond?
Good to know.

Poulin looked fantastic and was our best goalie prospect (and for a short time NHL goalie) till he got hurt. I have not come close to giving up on him. This is his year where he is Fully 100% healthy (I hope). I am curious to see what he brings.
Nino is not even legal drinking age yet... He is far from Done. He may or may not spend another year in the B-port, but I don't think the Isles have come close to getting ready to trade him.. despite what his agent says/wants.
I can not wait till matt Donovan gets his shot on this team.. |
