Seriously?

Well, golly gee, I don't know -- maybe I'm Mark Streit or Paul Holmgren, posting under the name "AllInForFlyers."

that and what he turned down from Snow (3 years, 4.75/year) was way more than most of us feel he was worth.
- Isles_since_6

Snow HAS offered some FA's silly money. Smyth, Erhoff, and even what Streit walked away from was more than he was worth and too many years at his age.
Garth does have his ceiling and won't throw stupid money at players. Too many bad contracts given across the league, especially to aging players...owners wonder why they had to lockout the players to correct the mistakes they made.... sheeesh..

Its not that Streit isn't still capable of playing in the NHL, it's just a VERY risky contract. 35+, injured recently, on the decline and north of $5 mill for 4 years..
- Danformo

$3Mil/yr & 2 years would have been ok to keep him but he would have needed to reduce ice time and be 2nd pairing. He's not the elite player his salary suggests.

I would've been OK with that but I'd almost rather not watch him cough the puck up anymore.

I think that was the neighborhood that we were talking about around the trade deadline. The rumor was around that time that Streit wanted over $5 mil which was ridiculous enough that some of the folks here didn't even (understandably) believe.

I'm not saying this because of sour grapes but are the Flyers kidding me? I liked Streit, he is obviously a good guy and he was good for us for a season for the rest of his term he was MAB part deux. The guy was abysmal in his own end and was a turnover machine. Any Flyer fan that thinks this is a good idea with the other crap contracts they have signed over the years and has them in cap trouble is fooling themselves. I wish the guy the best but I was thanking God when I heard he rejected 4.5 over three years from us(as you all know). I nearly coughed my lunch up when I heard Snow offered that to him. Dodged a bullet.

Also bad because agents use other players contracts as benchmarks for their clients. They look at #'s and say, so & so is getting Xmillion from that team....my player has same stats, therefore.....and then we get lockouts because owners wake up one day and go WTF...., we're LOSING $$$$?!?!?! How'd THAT happen?

agreed. I'm all for going after talented ufa's but not at the cost of possibly losing a quality player down the road due to being up against the cap. Better to allow room for resigning our own FA's and flexibility moving forward.

Not at all sad to see him go. He's a little greedy....Isles took him on when Habs didn't know what to do with him and he made out well. He'll prob be on waivers by 3rd year of contract. This is where Garth NEEDS to sign a stud Dman in his prime. Good to make room for the kids but you can't expect them to turn into a Karlsson right away.

that would have been a contract I think we all would have been happy with.. With that said.. I understand why Mark wanted the money he did.. I understand and applaud him for getting it... its his last pay day & he did well for himself.

Poulin looked fantastic and was our best goalie prospect (and for a short time NHL goalie) till he got hurt. I have not come close to giving up on him. This is his year where he is Fully 100% healthy (I hope). I am curious to see what he brings.

Nino is not even legal drinking age yet... He is far from Done. He may or may not spend another year in the B-port, but I don't think the Isles have come close to getting ready to trade him.. despite what his agent says/wants.

I can not wait till matt Donovan gets his shot on this team..

the problem with poulin has nothing to do with his knee

Below are some tweets from Gallof on today's rumors

B.D. Gallof ‏@BDGallof 2h #isles - Scuderi interest seems to be more driven by fans than actually interest by team b/c hails from LI.

B.D. Gallof ‏@BDGallof 2h BTW, despite connections being made as #isles in on Bernier who's being shopped all over the place, heard they are not much in mix here.

B.D. Gallof ‏@BDGallof 2h More being made b/c Garth doing due diligence of taking a call. Will not overpay for unproven commodity. especially rebuild chip

B.D. Gallof ‏@BDGallof 2h It is VERY hard to believe #isles move a prospect or chip (has yet to do so since rebuild) for anyone unproven. Their priority is wing.

B.D. Gallof ‏@BDGallof 2h Garth more likely to move pick but ... is Bernier better than Nabs or free agent? Kings want prospect, who will pay that? Not #isles

B.D. Gallof ‏@BDGallof 2h Taking a call, ascertaining cost, is what Garth Snow does every day. If cost a prospect, you can kiss that option goodbye. #isles

Brian Strait's 23 minutes per game during the playoffs will make him the most sought after dman in the UFA martket once his contract expires....

The Isles are in heavy pursuit of not really pursuing Bernier.

positional discipline is more his problem but that can get better with age and experience. He needs time to adjust to the NHL game. He definitely needs more than 5 games over a season.
