Respect your opinion, but I think the Rangers can do better with another GM. I think Sather has been terrible for you guys. (For what its worth , I don't think Snow is a good GM either....But he still has time to prove me wrong and this year was a good start) - mighty13duck
I don't think he's been terrible since the first lockout. Obviously from 2000-2004 he was worthy of the title worst in the league. But since then he and his staff have found guy that he's drafted, have developed and have made an impact at the NHL level. |

Maybe I'm misreading the above article but does it not say Garth Snow was GM when DP was signed to his donkey contract?? - PetrPuck
Welcome to the wonderful world of hockey. Other things you may not know yet? It's played with a puck made of vulcanized rubber. It's played on ice. Glen Sather is the GM of the team you say you're a fan of. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. |

Im not a Snow supporter, but he actually has not been able to add payroll over the cap floor. Wang will probably not add until this team is far away from the horrid lease. So if anything, I do not expect much until Brooklyn, which is sad.... |

The guy is 35, a crappy defenseman and is now making 5.4 million per year. I'm not sure you watched a single Islanders game this year based on your comment. He isn't good. Philly is a joke signing him for that much. - Oneonta Penguin
WTF do you know? Yeah right, just flapping your mouth and making no sense. |

Streit fills a huge need as a defenseman that can move the puck and QB the 2nd PP. That was an area that needed the most help, even outside of a goaltender IMO and most knowledgeable Flyers fans understand that.
~Girouxfortheshow~ - GirouxForTheShow
Disagree. The Flyers had the third ranked powerplay in the league. If you're going to rationalize paying nearly $5.5 million over 4 years for a dman who can't play defense and is about to turn 36 all so he can qb your second pp unit, I think you should start planning lottery parties over the next few years.

Oh stop being nice. You know it's ridiculously bad at that price. You would've crapped yourself if Snow signed him at that much for that long |

Donovan must be a sure thing for this team. - mighty13duck
I know Donavan is ready and should get a shot however we have a lot of guys signed for next year. (7 I think) plus add Donavan and Reinhardt. So what's the plan on defence with all these players? |

I'm not saying this because of sour grapes but are the Flyers kidding me? I liked Streit, he is obviously a good guy and he was good for us for a season for the rest of his term he was MAB part deux. The guy was abysmal in his own end and was a turnover machine. Any Flyer fan that thinks this is a good idea with the other crap contracts they have signed over the years and has them in cap trouble is fooling themselves. I wish the guy the best but I was thanking God when I heard he rejected 4.5 over three years from us(as you all know). I nearly coughed my lunch up when I heard Snow offered that to him. Dodged a bullet. |

I honestly think Sather has done a pretty good job for some time now. |

1st - Captain by default not in reality.
2nd - This contract is ridiculous. Honestly, I don't believe he's worth more that 4mil/season at this term considering his age.
3rd - Dee finally made good points. Snow wasn't around for a lot of the horrific moves. The main problem the isles have is attracting UFAs. A lot of GMs would panic and overpay to keep guys in said situation. Because Snow hasn't, the isles are in a good position moving forward. - cranktheradio

No such thing as we all know. If Snow did get a sure thing it wouldn't be a bad idea in addition to Donovan. |

Looks like all the puck moving defensman under 35 jumped in value. I'm looking at you Wideman, Liles, Shattenkirk, Whitney, Yandle, Pitkanen, Zidlicky, and Ehrhoff. |

Reinhart won't even come close to cracking the roster this year, he doesn't belong here yet. You never rush D prospects, especially not your most promising one. |

Does anyone have any idea of what Hamonic's new contract may look like? I would love a long term deal, but I seem to hear a large discrepancy in money when talking to other islander fans. - engrassias2
It will likely be a bridge contract at respectable money. It won't be an overly long term and it won't be huge dollars.
Look to guys like Okposo, Nielsen, and Grabner if you want to see about what he should be offered. Okposo and Grabner are on 5 year deals, at $2.8M and $3M, respectively. Nielsen has a 4 year deal at $2.75M.
I value Hamonic slightly more than those guys, so my guess is either 4-5 years with an AAV of ~$3.25M. He's not a superstar that takes over games so he's not going to get paid big money/term. He's still growing as a player, so at that price and term it's both a very fair raise for him and a manageable cap hit/length for the organization. |

He is in the discussion for being the worst. He is right there with the guys in Calgary, Vancouver and the Rags. - Oneonta Penguin
Nope.Sather is a great GM. Makes silly overpayments, but always finds a way to get out of them.Still the best trader in the league. |

Not to mention than New York is a tough place to manage. I have heard that it took Sather, reutation and all about 4 years to convince ownership that the free agent thing wouldnt work long term. Could be wrong, but owners (frank) up good GM's all the time. Just ask Toronto. |

He signs his own free agents. Gomez, Drury, Redden, Richards, Holik and Lindros were all his guys. He's brought in people who have helped him hold on to his young talent. That's what's changed. |

There are definitely mixed reviews on Slats. Fantastic trades, coupled with a few signings that were just atrocious. The Rangers have definitely improved their drafting of late, but I still will never understand the McIlrath pick. |

Air apparent to Girardi, or at least that's what the Rangers hope he becomes. |
