Disagree. The Flyers had the third ranked powerplay in the league. If you're going to rationalize paying nearly $5.5 million over 4 years for a dman who can't play defense and is about to turn 36 all so he can qb your second pp unit, I think you should start planning lottery parties over the next few years.

- keaner17

So the fact that we had the 3rd best PP yet lacked a offensive threat from the blue line especially on the 2nd unit, means we shouldn't upgrade it? And it's not just for the PP, 5v5 we desperately needed a puck mover defensively. Streit will provide that, and if on a pairing with Schenn, Coburn or Grossman his defensive short comings will be masked.

It's not a good contract at all. But Gonchar got 10 for 2 years. You think Streit wouldn't have gotten more from FA? It's market value. Fans tend to have a grass is greener mindset, where sometimes players you've watched for a while become almost a nuisance. I've learned to appreciate what a player does bring. And he is bringing something we need. The worst part is the over 35. If he gets severely injured, coupled with the Pronger contract, there could be a huge off season cap issue.

Homer is a terrible GM.... Yet another albatross contract for the Flyers
- Reveen

Correction: Homer is the GM who has been to two conference finals, one Stanley Cup final and had 95-plus point teams in five of six full seasons, missing the playoffs just once.

Maybe you meant to say, "I wish Edmonton had Paul Holmgren as GM, considering all of that has been done since...the last time we made the playoffs."

It's unbelievable to me that Edmonton fans, of all people, call ANYTHING, ANYONE OR ANYBODY "terrible."

Edlers value has just sky rocketed. If this dictates the market, he's worth 7+

Im not a Snow supporter, but he actually has not been able to add payroll over the cap floor. Wang will probably not add until this team is far away from the horrid lease. So if anything, I do not expect much until Brooklyn, which is sad....

I loved the Isles when Mike Bossy played there. lost interest in them after that until the run when they beat the Pens with Pierre Turgeon. I have to say Milbury did everything possible to nearly destroy the franchise, but Garth Snow has brought respectability back to the team. Despite what the idiots in Toronto media might say, Garth Snow has done an exceptional job. I'm glad he sticks to his guns.

All 3 of those guys you mentioned are not gonna worth what they tried to force the Isles into. Flyers are desperate and its showing.

Maybe I'm misreading the above article but does it not say Garth Snow was GM when DP was signed to his donkey contract??

- PetrPuck

That is on the owner who had already offered it to Dipietro before Snow got on board.

The Streit contract is not as bad as the one the Rangers gave to Wade Redden, but it's awfully close.

yes, well, at least your fan base doesn't deal with the idiots from Edmonton very often. They keep commenting despite their team being irrelevant.

You can but he would have to sign it to be relevant. Anyone can put an offer sheet out but if the player signs it, thats what matters. Guarenteed that won't happen

Streit fills a huge need as a defenseman that can move the puck and QB the 2nd PP. That was an area that needed the most help, even outside of a goaltender IMO and most knowledgeable Flyers fans understand that.

They don't. They think were bringing him in to be our Savior. We know he isn't that. That's not why we got him.

You signed a 35 yr old dman on the decline to a four yr 5.5 mil per yr contract. He better be your saviour at that price.

when the Rangers signed Redden to that crazy contract, 99% of Ranger fans despised the deal immediately and all called for Sather's head on a platter.

The Flyers making Mark Streit the highest paid player on the team on a deal that will take him to 40 years old is nothing to defend. It's a disgrace. We'd be freaking out in Ranger land if the Rangers signed Streit to that deal.

Donovan must be a sure thing for this team.
- mighty13duck

According to this article it looks like Donovan and Nelson will be on the Islanders this season...

Streit will probably have a good season the first year of his contract and then he'll decline...

WTF do you know? Yeah right, just flapping your mouth and making no sense.
- flyerdude17

he actually makes perfect sense. You're just trying to rationalize the signing when it's a terrible contract for a declining player. Head in sand. Lalalalala. You can't hear me.

If you don't believe us (Isles fans), then look at the Ranger fans comments as well as any other teams blog. Nobody except Flyers fans think it was a good signing.

If Frans is our 2nd line C, then Nelson will be our 3rd line C

Exactly, the Oilers haven't done squat since 06 and they are calling our GM the worst ever? That's hilarious.

Our options were, trade Couturier and or Schenn and or out 1st pick this year and next for maybe a guy like Yandle. It was really a case of overpay cash which we have a lot of as an org, or overpay in young assets we just acquired in 2011. I'll take this option any day as I don't want them swtiching gears again so soon.

Yes, I'm sure Giroux would just be jumping for joy to play for NYI.

"Hey Claude, you're really good and we'd love to give you a huge payday. But, um, see, we have this Tavares guy who we just named captain. So, you need to have the newly-appointed C taken off your jersey. And Tavares is our top line center, and we don't have much depth at wing, so you'll be playing with a guy named Kyle who can't score and a guy named Michael who can't pass. So, ready to sign up?"

He would probably be fine with that because than he would get the opportunity to play with JT. I think he'd give up the C to play with a guy like JT.

He would? Which one's moving to wing?
