Absurd contract. MAYBE two good seasons left in him at best. Good move Isles
- abolton

Well considering last year wasnt good for him that's certainly a best case scenario kind of thing.

If Frans is our 2nd line C, then Nelson will be our 3rd line C
- Ur Not Me

Now way in hell should frans be our second line center. Snow said himself he is not suited for the job and that was two seasons ago. If he doesn't follow his own advice then there's sonething wrong there.

You know the saying: One step forward, two steps back...
- Flyfreaky

Bottom line is, isles made the playoffs last year and the flyers just signed Streit to a dumb contract. We'll see what happens next year with both.

I don't think we'd bother with Giroux, but your comment is a bit misinformed. First off, JT is unquestionably our top forward. That said, we have a pretty good list of wingers coming up (arguably better than yours) with Strome and Nino along with guys like Moulson and Grabner. All four of those players can likely be 30+ goal guys (two already are). So let's not pretend that he'd be playing with lesser talent.

OMG, this is the greatest comment EVER.

Matt Moulson, Michael Grabner and two guys who haven't even scored an NHL goal are better than Scott Hartnell, Jakub Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Matt Read?

Uh, you do realize the Flyers were 2-1-1 against the Isles last season, including a 7-0 beatdown in Long Island and with guys like Kurtis Foster, Bruno Gervais, Matt Konan and Brandon Manning playing defense? In the worst season the Flyers have had since 2006-2007 -- where you finished a whole SIX POINTS ahead of them in a shortened season?

On what planet, exactly, are the New York Islanders going to have "the easiest 8 games we've ever had against the Flyers" next season?

Because it sure as hell ain't Planet Earth.

- AllInForFlyers

The planet where you unload a forward that always seems to play well against us all the while expecting Streit to play a key 'defensive' role. Admittingly the comment is over the top but the idea of you pairing a traffic cone like Schenn with Streit screams -3 in each game. You guys have OWNED us for years but quite frankly given your financial situation and the signing you just made, I don't see much hope for improvement this year for you. Meanwhile, we should be a good bit better with the addition of a couple of top six forwards and a stronger defense. At the moment, we appear to be two teams heading in opposite directions.

One of our fellow islander fans just made a very valid post. You guys are happy about the signing and so are we so what are we fighting about?

But...but...how do you need two Top 6 forwards when you just said the Islanders have as good as wingers as the Flyers do???

Look. I like watching the Islanders. It was great that they made the playoffs and fans like yourself deserve to have a good team.

But let's be straight-up honest here. Totally, straight-up honest. No fan hype. No crazy talk.

All the Flyers need Mark Streit to do is play on their 2nd PP and be better 5v5 than Kurtis Foster and Bruno Gervais. Come on, now. You know he's going to do that.

You can laugh at the contract. That's fine. But you're just straight-up deluding yourselves, as fans, if you think this contract makes the Flyers weaker.

That's just a case of people wanting to chase shadows that aren't there.

I'll take our four over those guys. Yep. I like Hartnell but after that, meh. Voracek had a very good year, Simmonds is overrated and Read is so-so. Strome, though may not be on the club this year, can easily become a ppg player who scores 25-35 goals a year. Nino is a true power forward who playing with JT can be a 30 goal guy. As for the other two, Moulson and Grabner have averaged 30 goals a year since coming here. I believe you have ONE 30 goal season out of the four you mentioned.

Hey, I found my way over here because some of your boys found your way over to the Flyers' blogs. You know, the one with over 1,000 comments.

It's a two-way street, Chief.

Do you expect the Isles fans to be sad to see him go. I think his skills have declined. I don't see him making it to the end of the contract.

And it is Bixll, not Chief.

My referring to addition of top six forwards was mentioning Strome and Nino joining the team. Both will be top six forwards. That said we may very well sign one as well this year.
As for Streit being a 5v5 upgrade over Gervais and Foster, we'll check back with you later in the year

And of course the contract makes you weaker. You're a team that is OVER the cap and is buying out at least two players to get under the cap with 43 of your 50 contracts complete and about 7 roster spots left to be filled. If you mean stronger in that your bottom pairing might be slightly better and your second pp unit will be better, sure. But stronger as a team given the financial impact of spending too much money on a modest role while preventing you from addressing other needs...Yep.

Michael Grabner's averaged what now since coming to the Islanders? Because unless there's some new math taking place in Long Island, it ain't 30 goals:
2010-11 New York Islanders NHL 76 34 18 52
2011-12 New York Islanders NHL 78 20 12 32
2012-13 New York Islanders NHL 45 16 5 21

And just last year, the "overrated" Wayne Simmonds had...15 goals. That's one fewer than Mr. 30-Goal Averager Michael Grabner and the same amount as Matt Moulson.

Simmonds had fewer points than Matt Moulson, true. He had more points than Grabner.

Of course, Moulson had fewer goals and points than Jakub Voracek, so it's all good.

Should I keep going?

Huh. Well, if the Flyers were broke and couldn't afford to use their two compliance buyouts, then maybe, just maybe, I'd be breaking a sweat about financial impact.

But when they are about to clear $12 million off the cap with the stroke of a pen, I'm just not that worried. Why would you be?
