Tim Panaccio: Crazy Day for Flyers Just the Beginning

If Lombardi insists on Cooter for Bernier, then he can pound sand. I want no part of that deal, or even a deal for Read. Why can't we just sign a decent backup and hand the reigns to Mason if they want to buy out Bryz?

Dude, its Panoch. He also stated that Ryan Whitney was a young top notch PMD that would cost the Flyers a 1st round pick at the deadline. Not the most realiable source on trade talks.

I know, but it's too silly not to comment.

what if homer sends lombardi a picture of dean holding the cup, and then says bernier for a 2nd?

Haha. I remember hearing him say that too and I was thinking he was crazy. I just read his article on CSN about trading Bob and couldn't possibly disagree with his stance more. He basically says we had no choice but to trade him, because it would hurt his development as a backup. That's funny because the Kings and Vancouver Canucks seem to be doing pretty well by hanging into Bernier and Schneider in the same situation. He also gives Bob's playoff stats for the Flyers and how they aren't good enough. Its based on like what two starts?! it's ridiculous you gotta give young goalies some time

Please say no to Bernier...I'd rather see Read and other assets moved for Yandle or Edler...Sign a nice vet to backup and mentor Mason for next season...

Buffalo is a small potato type of town. The GDP of Buffalo may be slightly more than a $20 bill.

Think big pal. Philly is old money, not some dump with chicken wings, snow, and a plethora of losers.
If I were you, I would consider hitting the treadmill and moving from that dump.

Shouldn't be in the market for a goalie. Shouldn't have gotten rid of Bobrovsky in the first place.

Don't give me that amnesty buyout bs either.

again, while the flyers were unwilling to give up Couturier in the Webber deal, they are now supposed to give him up for an unproven goalie??
- Habitants98

It wasn't that Nashville wanted Couturier for Weber and the Flyers wouldn't do it. It was Nashville was asking for Couturier, Schenn and Voracek plus picks that made the Flyers walked away. If they could have gotten Weber straight up for Couturier that deal would have been done in a second.

So true. If Dean is asking for Coots hes just doing its job. You gotta start high. Id love for that to happen. But know it isnt. I dont really want a deal with Philly. Read is interesting. But would like to get someone maybe a little younger with potentially more upside. Reads good for the now. Id like good for the future.

Trade B. Schenn instead of Cooter for Bernier...oh wait there was a reason LA got rid of him, now I know.

Absolutely trade Coots for Bernier.
What is the love affair with Coots...he's never going to be a scorer with the Flyers..they turn everyone into muckers and grinders so why not ?

Yeah, that Claude Giroux is no more than a 4th liner. And Jake Voracek can't match his Columbus numbers now that the Flyers are using him as an enforcer.

That was an awfully rude way to convey a true point. Philly has enough money to cover it.
- JAKEw1234

I never understood why fans get so upset when teams use the buyout method or burying guys in the minors to relieve cap space.

Why do the fans care how much it costs when they aren't the ones paying it?

Regarding Bernier, if I were the Flyers I too would go the offer sheet route.
Do you obviously want to upgrade from Bryzgalov while getting younger? Sure, that would be great, but to do so by trading Couturier would be a giant mistake. Much better off trying with an offer sheet, and if that doesn't work, there will be plenty of other goalies available. Miller will be a UFA after this season. You could buy out Bryzgalov and offer Miller a contract if you wanted and all it would cost you is money.

Exactly. I could easily see him being a bigger version of Michael Peca for anyone that remembered him, and that guy was a tremendous winning player.

What truly amazes me is all of the people saying Homlgren is the worst GM. The irony here is that Lombardi should have traded Bernier at the trade deadline and not now. His time is running out on trading his best asset. It isn't new news that the goalie market this UFA season is flooded. Maximum value would come from an earlier trade and not a later one. Not saying he is a bad GM but hate hearing Homer is bad for kicking tires, addressing team needs, and buyingout two contracts when other GMs actions haven't been perfect either. Obsurd IMHO.

How could lombardi trade bernier if they're making a Cup run? What if quick was injured? The belief had to be that bernier gave them the best chance in such a scenario.
I think homer is average w/ a high risk/ high reward style that has many us ready for a change toward a more stable course.

I'm not opposed to a more "stable" course of action either. But judge him on what he does and not on rumours. I also disagree about keeping Bernier. If Quick goes down a player with such limited experience like Bernier probably isnt a better roll of the dice then a vet you could pick up for cheap.

Poor Claude Giroux..one good year..with Jagr at his side.
How are his playoff stats looking ? And Jake led them right into that promised land.
You're happy with a team that has no better than 60-70 points-a-year players ?
Aint winning nothing that way Skip !!!

Uh, Boston Bruins leading scorer in 2010-11 was Milan Lucic. He had 62 points.

Good try, though.

Exactly...Tim Thomas won that Cup for them..and he is a GOALIE.
If I remember Lucic had 30 goals that season...Lil' Claude and Jakey have how many 30 goal seasons....hmmm ???
And Coots....he's looking at 3 years combined for 30. GRINDER.
Trade him now, twice on Sunday for Bernier....
You're up !

Yes, amazing he hasn't scored 50 playing with the likes of Zac Rinaldo, Jay Rosehill and Rusty Fedotenko.
