yeah i can't see MB signing an old guy to a big contract. we'll see what he does this summer but i get the feeling he's not feeling pressured to repeat this year's regular season success. plus even though we have $$ coming off the books the next 2 years, there are going to be a few raises to be doled out with Subban and Eller and then guys coming off ELCs like Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Tinordi... those deals come up fast.

all too true, and between Gallagher, Galy Tinordi and Beaulieu i think we better save some money i doubt they'll take long to make an impact on the team, 2 of which already have, as they make a bigger impact the more we gotta worry about the salary they'll be getting, of course when its time to sign these Kids and MB can say 'hey look guys Norris trophy winning Subban even took a shorter transtion contract so i think you guys would be reasonable to as well' he'll once again look like a genius

but yeah i dont see us getting any big free agents unless one is giving us a great deal (i dont see why) for now its jus better to fill in the gaps

thats different it was 2 crap teams, in our case, we were facing a former stanley cup winning team which still has most of their core back. also, nj lost their captain in parise and had absolutely no one to replace him. the core of the leafs are returning, and we have much better depth then florida and nj has. i'm not saying we only need 2 players, i would say, a 1st line center, 2nd line winger, depending on the make up of the bottom six, possibly a 3rd line winger and for sure an upgrade on the 4th line (boston has thornton, who actually has some skill, orr, well, he doesn't) then we need someone who can be paired with phaneuf, unless gunnar improves from the hip, but for sure need a shutdown guy to play with gardiner, fraser with franson/liles is a fine 3rd pairing (again, still want franson to be dealt)

so we are possibly 6 players away from contention
