Winning cups is the only thing that matters. I'm done now.
Congrats Flyskippy - NYI44

I know people are real tied to read...I think of it this way, if read stays this is his last year here as someone will overpay for him. I dont think we are cup contenders next year anyways. - PhillaBully
He has to get to Free Agency first. Read could opt to test the market. But he could also agree to re-sign with the Flyers during this Off Season or during the Season. |

The Devils have like 20k fans. The rest are Ranger fans that are bored, or Islander fans trying to watch a real team. - youarewrong
Or Flyers fans that want to sit in the lower bowl of an NHL arena for less than $80 per seat, face value. |

1974/1975 only cups - NYI44
i shouldn't get into this, but seriously? like this even matters. the islanders might as well only have 2 themselves. it was almost just as long ago as the flyers.
sure, it sucks they haven't won since 75, but they've been to the finals 6 times since, conference finals 5 times (might be more) and generally are always in the thick of the race, have relevance, and aren't run like a laughing stock. over time, i appreciate that more than i would 4 cups from over 30 years ago - the first of which was obtained fraudulently.
i don't have any hate for the isles organization. i'm glad they're moving to a brand new building and i hope they can return to being a consistent contender. a lot of good, young talent there. |

Who else has any interest in Bernier? LA can either keep him or trade him to Philly. I have never heard another team linked with Bernier. Holmgren just needs to stick to his guns this time. - phillydentist
I sincerely doubt that the Flyers are the only team with interest in Bernier. |

To LA- Read, Phi 2nd (#41)
To Phi-Bernier, CGY's 3rd 1st rd pick (#28)
To Cgy- Cousins, LAs second (54th)
A guy can dream right! - jak521
Maybe if we got buf 16 instead of cal 28 |

At the very least, Todd Cordell (HB Devils blogger) has been pumping the 'NJ in on Bernier' angle. Gotta think more than one or two teams see the situation LA is in. |

ah yeah. in all seriousness, i do hate when franchises fold, because no matter how bleak there are at least SOME people who care. to lose a team, no matter how crappy they are, has to suck. i realize its not the best for the financial bottom line, but part of me would rather see the few people in phoenix who are about the yotes continue to have a team, than spoiled people in toronto get a second one because the line for tickets for the leafs is over a year long.
before you guys tear into me, i totally understand this isnt exactly taught in business 101, and its a totally inefficient, overly sentimental mindset - stayinthefnnet
Financially, it wouldn't be in anyone's best interest to move an existing team to Toronto or Quebec. They're slated for over priced expansion teams. Seattle is in line for the next relocation it appears.
Don't feel bad for the fans in New Jersey, most of them are displaced Rangers fans so they'll just go back to rooting for them or the Islanders. It's not like they won't have a team like the three hundred people in Phoenix. |

Everyone is throwing out trades on twitter now for Bernier since he switched agents.
Carchidi asked people if they would trade Couturier AND the 1st round pick for Bernier.
I wouldn't even give up Couturier for Bernier in a straight up deal, let alone toss in a 1st round pick.
If they won't take Matt Read (and I'm not entirely sure I'm even comfortable with that), then I hang up the phone and tell them to enjoy whatever compensation they get for when Bernier gets an offer sheet. - johndewar

True, but a if im a 28 year old Read i try to get as much money as i can. Someone will overpay...
See Leino.
Add Giroux's, Schenn, Couts contract extension and the possibilities are slim. |

My biggest worry is that Toronto is the other team in on Bernier. If T.O. wants him I'm not sure we should. |

Speaking of Ville Leino....
He probably gets bought out by the Sabres.
Any interest in bringing him back on a 1 yr/1.5 million dollar deal?
I'd think about it. |

i know. it could be two hundred. and id still feel bad, that whether they are young kids who now miss out on the game, or someone who has followed them throughout doans career, now they have nothing |

Again what does toronto have that could help out the kings now? There arent many 25+ goal scorers for 900k. They would have to offer up kadri to get bernier which i dont think they will do.
i think a deal of read for bernier works out good for both teams....the most i would do is read + our second for Bernier + their second. If they ask for more i hang up the phone. |

Unless Schenn totally explodes this upcoming Season, there is a very good chance that his Cap hit could be lower then what it is now. Couturier's shouldn't go up a whole lot. Giroux's is a different story. His is going to be around double what it is now. They can re-sign Read, no doubt. Unless his demands are way out of line. |

And the funny thing is that it's a pretty nice arena. Huge concourse. Lots of food choices. I feel like it's wasted there. |
