ive been trying to get over my loyalty to markov and be open to the idea of trading him. the one thing i keep coming back to is, will him leaving make emelin less effective?

theres no question after a 30 point performance his value is high and would be an attractive trade. we have a lot of great talent coming up that needs space on the back end. also i think that this is subbans pp and that if we can get a big Defensive D with markov and a pick it may be wise to do so. work beaulieu into 2nd pp and over the next few seasons we could be looking at a very solid fisrt and second wave of pp pairings. add tinordi georges emelin and player X for our shut down guys. man not half bad at all.

id also like to see what happens with DD, he is not #1 c, and i cant see him playing # 2 either. eller pleks and gally ??? or do we move pleks while hes got value...

Great blog. Nice to see you back.

IF MB can move up.. do it.

MB needs to find a top line winger to play with Plek and make the Habs D stronger and tougher to play against...

Bye bye Diaz ?

Not sure about what Markov's trade value is.

I see it similar to finances. Slow and steady wins the race. The few with the get rich quick schemes that succeed skew the reality.

Let Timmins do his job and continue to build within and through smart signings.

i think youd have to keep diaz. markov i think will bring you the most return. hes knees aren't the same but his passing and hockey sense is as good as ever. a team that's really struggling on the pp would love to have him qb it. think about what markov could do for say chicagos faltering pp?

Thought provoking?

Insightful?

Perhaps?

Is it because there are so many open ended questions?

One thing is certain, Bergevin has enough pieces to allow for strategic flexibility. My money is on him continuing his early success by making some positive moves/additions that payoff short and/or long-term this coming season.

I'd rather trade Diaz and get bigger.

Markov can still help this team if he gets limited 3rd line minutes and some PP.

This D needs to get tougher.. Diaz is a good asset to trade considering his puck moving skills.

Gorges and Bouillon are decent shut down guys and Emelin when healthy is a solid Shutdown D also. This leaves room for Tinordi, Beaulieu and Diaz... I keep the first 2 thank you.

I am with you, i would part with Diaz personally. I can really see a move with Dallas sending something like Diaz, White in exchange for Nystrom, Robidas as key components.

We lose offense but gain a better, tougher defender who'll play a year maybe 2 and then step aside just as our kids are ready for the. We'd also get a faceoff upgrade with Nystrom who is good on the PK and provides grit, size and toughness.

As for the draft. I rally want to see the team land Kirby Rychel.

Also hoping we get to draft Rychel, though I have faith in Timmins.

Would also like us to get Nystrom.

That being said, Robidas is not the answer. Would rather get a bigger, tougher defenseman, getting Robidas doesn't solve anything. And I don't think we'll get much in exchange for Diaz, better off trading Markov and keeping Diaz in the meantime.

Robidas is still an effective D and he plays much bigger than he is. Still a top 4, but importantly is a short term fix. Out of curiosity who do you think Habs could acquire and for whom, that can fill the need for a top 4 big tough dman?

They wont find a top 4 big man but Im thinking Fistric or a trade for OBrien or Wilson with Col would be nice. Only prob is that the habs would have too many bottom pairing guys with Drew and Bouillon

My fear as well. Always liked O'Brien but he's a #6 guy. Good to have but not given our D make up.

I questioned whether making a pitch for Bieksa would be worthwhile. Would love to see him on this team. Maybe a pitch for Derek Morris. Just don't think we are tat the point of shedding prospects or picks for a Dman.

I just dont see Bieksa or Morris as the type of guys that the habs need. They need a big nasty guy with okay puck moving skills for a couple years while Tinordi, Pateryn, Dietz and Thrower develop and get bigger.

A puck moving D with size would be a wise target.

Bieska ? Sure.. if avail... but he would cost against the cap.

I think Diaz can get us something... combined with a pick ? something decent I would presume.

On the FA market, not sure to be honest. Rob Scuderi might be a good fit. Could also find someone for our bottom pairing otherwise. Thing is right now we have too NHL level many players that can't provide what we're missing.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a Top-4 D, imo. I'd just like a bit more toughness overall. Would consider Clowe/Clarkson/Horton up front in our Top 6. Could use a bit more toughness in our bottom 6 also.

As for trades, too many possibilities to consider

I think we desperately need a top 4 knowing Emelin is gone for 2 months. Markov, Subban, Gorges and then Bouillon, DD, Tinordi......that's not a good recipe for success in my eyes. I want to find a cheap option that fills the need and he has to shoot right

As for forward toughness, I think we have a long way to go knowing DD, Gallagher, Gio and Pleks are arguably all in top 6.

Would like a Clowe or a Clarkson, not Horton though because of re-occuring injury.

Agree that there's a lot of work to be done in Top-9.

Galchenyuk - Keep
Eller - Keep
Gallagher - Keep
Bourque - Keep
Pacioretty - Keep
Prust - Keep
Gionta - Out
Desharnais - Out
Plekanec - Out
Moen - Out

Hopefully Eller keeps progressing and slots in behind Galchenyuk. Then we can trade Plekanec and Desharnais. Otherwise Eller remains third line center and we keep Plekanec or Desharnais for our second line until we draft/trade for something better.

I agree with everything except Pleks......still think he is one of the best 2 way players in this game. I think Pleks on a line with good defensive players would do wonders.

I've wondered about Moen to Edmonton which I think makes alot of sense. Prust on 4th line. White on RW, maybe Nystrom, Lapierre or my choice because of his FO ability, Steckel down the middle?

Steckle would be great. Big body, great on face-offs and PK.

Has almost no physicality but his size and FO's are what we badly need. Plus Whit needs to play RW and not center.

just a took a gander at all the defensive prospects we have... mannnnn were sitting pretty. yes of corse its all up in the air, and the players could flop

in the next couple years we could see

subban beaulieu

tinordi emelin/georges

dietz nygrin

ellis pateryn

also a few hopefuls this season in kristo collberg and hudon

Interesting that you consider the Subban contract a good move considering his salary will shoot to the moon after this season. Probably should have paid him closer to what he wanted, which will undoubtedly be cheaper than he's now going to cost.

arguably tho perhaps it was the contract that lit the fire under his ass to play better. hell get his pay day, im sure most fans and management knew this before he signed. at least now we get him for cheap this year and next. smart move imo
