Maybe its just me but I see Pens trading Letang (if he wants his bling bling contract) after the draft when another team can actually put ink on paper and they can also drive the demand up after the free agent selections are gone. - nelson911
You need to trade him before or on draft day to maximize the best return.

Columbus has a very good front office now and can do some damage at the draft. Jarmo doesn't miss on picks. They will be a pain in the ass to play. Remember, they were closer to the play-offs this year than the Flyers were. Define couple of players. - Oneonta Penguin

that we can agree on. i definitely think columbus is heading in the right direction. im not saying to plan the parade, but i think they will contend for the playoffs with regularity sooner rather than later. |

A goalie, a couple of defensemen, and maybe a winger or 2......but they're right there!!! |

I agree. I do think if they had stayed out West it might have been a tad easier but then again, can't rule anything out. They have the picks in this draft to build up. I wouldn't be shocked if they might even move up a bit. |

Really what is the myth around this guy that he's worth 5 mil, the Flyers got a second Timmonen, meaning an aging puckmoving defensman on the decline . |

I dont know what the ruling is but can the flyers buy out Briere and then bring him back at a lower contract $? or can a bought out player not return to the team he was on?

Not as soon as you'd think, there are a handful of players ahead of him on the waiting list. No cutting in line! |

They cannot. CBOs use the same rules as normal buyouts, except with no remaining cap hit. So the Flyers could not acquire him in any way whatsoever for one year. |

You guys better hope Pronger doesn't feel like retiring. That's one cut you can't un-butt. I doubt he'd do that but it'd be a monkeywrench. |

dont the pens have 13 players signed (including Letang at $3.5M) and only $7.5M left in cap space?
after Sid and Geno, arent the biggest #s: Neal (6), Fleury (5.5), Martin (5), Orpik (3.75) and Kunitz (3.75)? does at least one of them have to go to free up some space? |

I doubt he'll retire, he'd forfeit the remainder of his salary. Maybe insurance gets some of it back, but why turn down free money and team-paid doctors? |

Nobody will top Zherdev's limo ride streit to the top of the poop list (do not pass Go, do not collect $200). |

Actually, Streit cred is worth 5.25 million over four years ... that is way too much.

He'll still get paid regardless... only the Flyers benefit with cap relief if he stays on LTIR |

I think we'd trade Niskanen to clear cap space before we trade Martin or Orpik. I'd love to see Letang sticking for a fair value. It would be a no brainer to re-up the guy. - Orpik44
I think nisk is prob going to go. But that's only 2 mil. Need to move a bit more salary |
