You still have time, hurry. I'd like to at least feel I'm talking to someone mature enough - Orpik44
But CPF does enjoy it so, how could I take this away from him? |

thanks. thats actually one of the things thats always bugged me about a lot of flyers fans around here. i dont think snider has been given enough credit as an owner. never once in my life, and im sure for decades before that, have the flyers ever not been doing everything they can as an organization to win. in todays world of sports, everything begins and ends with an owner who wants to win. its virtually impossible to succeed without it. despite a lack of much tangible cup success (thank god) the flyers have always had that, to the point where i think many fans take it for granted. - stayinthefnnet
The one thing I commend him with is his passion to win and allocating resources to put his team in position to win. As a Pirate fan, I have been waiting for our owner to do the same and its been 22 years. I do think we have an advantage though. Mario has a very very very high hockey IQ. I think if Shero came to him and said Streit for 5.25 over four years, Mario would have looked at him like he had three horns growing out of his head.
The world, as in sports world, would be so much easier if the owners actually had an IQ regarding the sport they own a franchise in. Does Cuban have a basketball IQ? Does the goof who owns the Redskins have a football IQ? Did Al Davis, or Jerry Jones? Does Jeffrey Loria or Nutting have one for baseball? |

The writing is on the wall Letang will be moved with Shero opening contract talks with Dupuuis. Letangs price is just not workable for the Pens. |

haha to be fair, some of those guys youve mentioned have guided their teams to rings, despite their warts.
but yes i understand what you mean. its unfortunate to be a team with apathetic ownership. the circle of life in sports in which the poopty teams eventually stockpile enough young talent to be relevant again doesnt work when that young talent flies the coop as soon as they are off their rookie deals and are deemed to be too expensive.

Letang is replaceable. Thats the thing. You can make do without the tremendous skill if it means it also removes the terrible mental errors he occasionally has.
You can win with 6 Paul Martins. You cant win with 6 Kris Letangs. |

I can see the convo between Shero and Tanger's agent ...
RS: Here is where we are at. We can offer 5.5 for six years. If not, we have a deal in place with Florida for Markstrom, a first and Drew Shore.
Agent: But, Gonchar got 5.0 from Dallas; Streit got 5.25 from Philly and Kris is better than both. He could command 8+ on the open market.
RS: Do you want me to pop the tapes in on the last two play-off years of Kristopher? Besides, we aren't Dallas nor Philly.
Agent: But, Kris doesn't want to play in Florida. They are bad.
RS: What will it be?
Agent: He needs more $$$
RS: Tell Kris to wear 45 sunblock in Miami. It works well.

The only way I could see it happening is if it was a short deal bridging to a bigger one like Subban signed. Tough to see it happening but imagine this: Subban won the Norris. Letang was a nominee. They both are projected to be in the conversation for that award which would add some $ to a prospective deal. Wouldn't it be somewhat in Letang's interest to sign for say...2 years and try to build up more value?
I see the trade coming. It's far more obvious---but I can't seem to see a slim chance he re-signs for a fairer deal now to try and break the bank later. |

This past postseason has really made me numb to trading Letang. His head hasn't caught up with his feet. I would take, as you said, another PMart for him in a heartbeat. |

Although not a sure thing, I am going on record to say no trade. |

It's not that easy. Dupes might be on the wrong side of 30, but he does alot well. Letang is a very good player, but he is flawed defensively and he has missed several games the last two years.
So, are you going to ditch Alfredsson?

i agree. i went from thinking he was the second coming to being much more tempered on him, and i dont think it was necessarily just trying to prepare myself for losing him. |

For the love of all that is good, it's DUPUIS*** |

I think Shero would make 6 per year work. Letang wont settle for that and I wouldnt blame him. His value is maybe as high as it will ever be right now. |

i just dont think that the dupuis negotiations are necessarily the final nail in the coffin for letang. i think that has already been cast, so they might as well do their best to retain dupuis |

You have to look past the points with Letang. Another dman given the chance he has could do a similar job in that department. Maybe not as well but the better defensive part of the game makes that a wash in my eyes. He's just not worth the money he's going to get. |

Dupes has great chemistry with Sid ... could easily get 60-65 points in a full season; is valuable on the PK and has a tremendous work ethic.
Our power play would be better, or more efficient with Martin than Letang.
We also have several PMD prospects in our system that will start infiltrating the lineup. We can't pay Letang "Karlsson" money. That would mean we are fielding six bonafide NHL players and the rest would be AHL types making league minimum. |

I think he can. I think Despres can. You dont need a Letangs skill to be able to move the puck efficiently up to the forwards. At times all that skill can be a hindrance at times as silly as that sounds. |

Our GM is the best at what he does. He is the best as far as cap management. It's poor management paying him 7.5 million or north of that, when you have Crosby, Malkin contracts on top of that.
