Was there a NMC/NTC in the new 1 year deal for Timonen? - Buzzo
I think every contract Homer signs has a NMC. It's like he made too many xerox copies of a base contract and hasn't run out yet.

Bill, I usually find myself supporting your line of thinking, but I'm not nearly as optimistic about the cap situation moving forward as you.
Just one or more of the following could really throw a wrench into the long-term outlook:
- Giroux gets paid in the $8-9M range,
- Any one of Couturier/Schenn have a breakout starts to the season ($$$),
- They decide to not CBO Bryz this summer, he goes on to have a great year, and they opt to stick w/ him long-term,
- Kimmo decides not to hang 'em up after all and wants to stay,
- They peddle value assets (like Read) for a higher-dollar contracts,
- They add any players via UFA or trade-deadline on a multi-year deal,
- They throw another big-$ offer-sheet at an RFA defenseman,
- An existing high-dollar player gets a long-term injury, and needs to be replaced (a la Pronger),
- The cap-limit doesn't go up by the full anticipated 8-9%.
Some of these are more likely to happen than others, but we know that Homer's never really set aside much cap space for future use... no matter what's on the horizon. Every spring/summer, there's tagging-space and off-season cap concerns... can we justifiably assume that it won't be the same next summer? - Tomahawk
Bill didn't state that the Flyers won't be a team that is up against the Cap, and has to do some maneuvering. He simply said that they aren't in as bad shape as some feared. And I think your post supports his claim of some fearing that it's worse then it really is. We could all sit here and make up ficticious reasons as to why it is worse. But that's just having a doomsday approach. |

Probably means one or less trades then - at least on/before draft day. Which I'm completely OK with. |

Only because of the new CBA rules that don't allow you to longtail deals (to lower the cap hit). - bradleyc4
Exactly. Hard to compare a lot of these deals that have low money on the end years to lower the Cap hit. Take away those years, and look at the Cap hits that a lot of those players would have. |

The big problem with Bryzgalov.....
"it's not you....it's me" or is it me?
with the success that Bobrovsky has had this past year....I really wonder if the lack of attention the Flyers seem to pay to their own zone (either by system or personnel) is the reason behind Bryz's average play?......this becomes a monumentel issue when deciding his fait....or if the Flyers spend more assets to aquire Bernier are we really addressing the wrong issue?
I mean seriously....Did Bob really just figure it out this year? or should Holmgren take a long hard look in the mirror?
- landros 2
He had a different goalie coach on the top of changes that you mentioned. Could that be a culprit? |

You're right. And I'd be happy if they brought him back, just not to "replace" Matt Read. - cmr.266
never meant to imply he alone would "replace" matt read
and of course i'd rather keep read but i doubt it'll happen that way |

I have read that players that get bought out of their contracts can only recieve a max contract of 3 million for 3 years. Has anyone else heard this? |

Gotcha. I don't think they will either. I think they assume Michael Raffl is the same guy - not assume, but really hope. Should be an interesting few weeks. |

There is a new CBA. I doubt that is the case. But you never know. I'll have to look into it. |

you guys will be fine. youll never not be a team who spends to the cap. you might not have the space available to throw out a Suter/Parise type deal for someone once all is said and done, but i see no reason to believe that the flyers should lose anyone they deem to be part of their "core", unless it is via trade for team improvement, not cap related reasons. whatever increases for guys already here that will occur, should more than be offset via internal salary subtraction.
sadly, i think it is wishful thinking for you guys to lose a core guy due to cap constraints. despite what some say, holmgren isnt an idiot |

Depends what you consider core. We are buying out a top 6 forward and #1 goalie for cap reasons right now. |
