No he's gonna retire a flyer and it shouldn't be any other way. - JAKEw1234
i agree
but if the flyers are out of contention i'd love to see him go to a Cup contender. I'd root for whatever team he goes to |

My one thing is this.
The stars, or most of the (hopefully) future stars on this team, arent exactly really physical players.
Its why I dont like bringing in Ryan. I tend to believe that forward core is too soft as it is, and filled with too many players who have sub-par or average at best defensive games. Dont want Ryan for those reasons. I have a real feeling a team like Boston or LA would expose a forward core like this anyway, working them along the boards and pouncing on careless plays. - flyer_nutter
Schenn is physical, Simmonds is physical, Giroux certainly doesn't shy away from throwing his weight around. I'd hope once Couts fills out more he will muscle his way to the net more; he's got a long reach, good hands, a great stick, stake him in front of the net. Couts definitely isn't "physical" so far but he has size certainly. |

How many people has Kimmo injured with his slap shot? I was just considering it and I think I've seen him injure players with his slap shot more than anyone else has with their slap shot. |

But I don't see how it circumvents the cap more than already allowed. If you just continue with those same numbers, say Briere signs for 3 years at 2 million per. The cap dollars and actual dollars will still have an 8 million dollar difference. 53M and 45M respectively. I mean maybe its just the NHL saying you can't have your cake and eat it too, but I don't see why the fuss. And in a case like Briere, he has kids which are rooted in the area yada yada. Just hope he finds a good home in the division, doesn't make the playoffs, and keeps up his sub par defensive play - GirouxForTheShow
Why should the Flyers be able to escape having to repay the Cap savings on the end of the original deal, and also be able to keep the player for a lesser Cap hit? Where is the punitive part of it? It's pretty clear how it circumvents the Cap.

I'd love to see the Flyers, if out of contention, add some solid assets for a veteran at the deadline.

The Flyers certainly could use at least one more physical forward. But they just need to play tougher as a team. They have plenty of players who can do that. Hopefully, there will be some systemic changes made. We'll see. The blueprint for how to play in on display right now. Except for last night's game!

But it's circumventing the Cap regardless. And number wise it isn't circumventing any more. Allowing the players to resign in the same And not only did I know how clear it was beforehand, but I knew it even more once you laid it out several times. |

I'm sure he'd have value as a rental to a cup contender, though. What he brings to the game with his intelligence is invaluable. |

Timonen should bring in the same return a Jagr or Iglinla can bring back... |

Yes it is circumventing regardless. That's the whole point. It is circumventing more, because Briere has two more years at 6.5 before the buyout. So now they get the 8M Cap savings that doesn't have to be repaid. Plus they get to keep the player at a reduced Cap hit. The Flyers make out on both ends. It's no the same. I can't explain it any clearer. |

When I say physical, I mean being able to excel at playing along the boards.
This team to me, up front, is pretty damn soft. To each his own.
Draft cant come fast enough. I'd be happy if they did absolutely nothing except buy out Bryz shortly after. |

I view Couturier the same way. I find him to be a soft player right now but he has a lot of time to change that. |

Couturier has to fill out. But you don't do what he has done on the ice, in the role he plays in, if you're soft as a player. He is the direct opposite of soft. He plays against much bigger players a lot of the time. And wins a lot of battles. |

Yeah for sure.
I really do wonder if his offensive game will ever develop. If not its cool to keep him around, he can be a solid 3 line shutdown center for years.
Kid kind of reminds me of Handzus in a way. |

One other thing about Briere I will remember.
In the few games I got to see in person, he was the last guy on the ice during warm ups, practicing roofing his wrister into the upper corner of the net, from the face off circle. It was cool to watch. |

Pretty cool.
I can barely do a wrist shot as it is. Why I usually played goalie |

Our definitions of what's considered touch has to be completely different then. I don't ever expect him to become Keith Primeau, who was touch in ever sense of the word but I do fully expect him to become Rod Brind'Amour. |

I believe we'll see Sean Couturier drop the gloves from time to time over the course of his career. I'll give the tough edge to Couturier over Handzus today. |

Yes I fully believe Timonen could bring in a reasonable return. Timonen is still very good at what he does and could help any team around the league today. |
