I'd still rather make a reach and have a Nichushkin-Schenn-Simmonds line though. Too bad Tampa is taking him at #3. - JAKEw1234
Trading into the top 5 is highly unlikely for anyone unless it's an overpayment. |

Not saying it was. Briere had his good points and his bad points. I'm just not going to praise him like he was the Flyers Savior. I'm not happy to see him go, but I'm not sad either. - youarewrong
Agreed... Fir the most part briere was a huge disappointment in Philly. Coming off a 90 point season in buffalo I thought he'd really take off in philly. Outside of 1 really good offensive season and maybe 2 good playoff performances I think he was a major bust. Not saying it was his fault. Injuries and stupid coaching putting him at wing did him in. To his credit he never complained or anything. He was a great pro and teammate. His leadership will be missed but his play will not |

Huge disappointment would be Scott Gomez. Lets not forget how offensively impotent this team was the year before they signed him. |

You're talking about NHL equivalency. The numbers for Drouin were impressive, and has led a lot of people to speculate that he is actually the best prospect available, but nobody's affixing the "generational" tag to him.
Crosby/OV/Malkin were the last batch of true generational talents. Tavares and Stamkos were close. But this year, the top of the draft relates much closer to Yakupov/Hall/RNH than it does to the aforementioned guys. It's the depth that's really noteworthy.
Barkov = ethnically Russian w/ dual citizenship. As with most 2nd-generation immigrants, he identifies with both. - Tomahawk
I dunno Stamkos ranks pretty high for me on that generational talent chart... But that's my opinion... I don't know enough about Tavares to make a call there, too small of a sample size is all that comes back |

Not sure that they need another offensive forward who needs GPS to get back on defense. Not meant as a trolling comment. |

If I had a dime for every time I heard that particular Mitch Hedberg joke, I'd be making money in a really weird way . |

Fixed for you. Simmonds doesn't have the defensive ability over Read to play on a Couturier-Talbot line. Read is a better fit for a defensive line, and Simmonds for a scoring line. I also think Simmonds is more ambidextrous between LW and RW than Ryan is. - JAKEw1234
I was trying to get a better offense/defense balance on each line. |

Gomez would be a joke... Briere had like 2 seasons around 30 goals/ 70 points. Just saying for his contract coming off 90 point season I expected much much more. I agree his signing was Right move at the time but I'm sure Philly is disappointed in what they got from him. Again I don't blame him totally but I'm hoping g doesn't do same thing. 1 90 point season then sign 6/7 million dollar deal and only put up like 70 points a year. In cap world paying 6/7 a year long term you need much much more |

I think our 2nd and 3rd lines have different purposes. The 2nd is more clearly a scoring line, and the 3rd more clearly a defensive one. As long as you baby the second line with offensive zone starts I think the lack of balance isn't a huge issue |

He's Taiwanese-American. Just like you wouldn't be wrong if you referred to Lin as Taiwanese or American -- he identifies with both equally -- you wouldn't be wrong if you referred to Barkov as either Russian or Finnish, since he's Russian-Finnish. He wouldn't hold dual citizenship if he didn't identify strongly with being Russian.

Nowadays if you can pay a guy $6M/per and he scores 70pts a year, that's a steal. |
