You dont see Matt Read taking penalities like that. - youarewrong
Matt Read's got a few inches and about 15-20 pounds over Danny B... despite what his bio says, Briere's probably 5'7, 175 soaking wet. |

Hey, so slightly off topic, I'm set to participate in the Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania's Summer Stroll. My sister, diagnosed with epilepsy a couple years ago, pulled together a team and we're looking to raise a bit of support if anybody is interested. Donations are tax deductible, and are confirmed to fulfill any 'good deed for the day' requirements. Also, I'd really appreciate it.

As Justin Bourne is famous for saying any number of times, offensive skill players are their own animal.
They're not going to have that "Give 110%, 100% of the time" mentality that depth players have to cling to b/c that's the only thing keeping them in the show. They're going to do their own thing, hide in the weeds, saving their energy for those rare scoring chances and big moments.
Danny's pretty much that kind of player to a T.
I don't think he wasn't trying in the regular season as much as he was being judicious with his energy and efforts, especially as he began to creep up in age. - Tomahawk
I completely agree with this comment!
I think the thing that people are underestimating is that now with Danny gone, aside from G, there is no other skill player on the Flyers that would strike fear in the hearts of the other team; no other player that a coach would have to match up against. Vorachek is becoming that kind of guy, and hopefully will continue to progress this year.
But Danny was a threat to create offense on any shift. This is pure conjecture, but I personally believe Giroux put too much pressure on himself to carry the team last year. This was exacerbated when Briere was out of the lineup. In 2012 with Jagr on the top line and a legitimate second line that required line matchups as well, Giroux was much more relaxed, didn't try as hard to force things or get too cutesy, and was much more effective.

I think the discussion of Danny is a refreshing change to discussing something that has actually happened and responding to it rather than catastrophising about every cockamamie rumor out there. - bodiva88

Also faster. Danny wasn't really that fast end to end, he was just quick. |

Or take a drive to Media (gotta rep the delco) and check out Pinocchio's beer garden or Quotations (a wide selection of craft beer and pretty good food) |

Hockey's Future Flyers draft preview:
http://www.hockeysfuture....lyers-2013-draft-preview/
(Nice to see Gus getting props) - Tomahawk
I really hope they take Pulock. I love the WHL for defensemen development, as it always seem to be the most physical league and produces good, tough defensemen (Chara, Weber, Seabrook, Brewer, Jackman).
If he's gone, then I'd take Ristolainen. I know the Flyers always draft the best player available, but at this point, with the cap the way it is and the injury to Pronger, there has to be an exception (unless somehow MacKinnon/Drouin/Nichuskinulovobodinlon or whatever drop to them in Flyers fantasy land). |

I'd also like for them to go for Ristolainen... Id be happy with a pick of either him, Nurse or Pulock at 11. (if Nurse drops) - TrentKlatt
I have a feeling that Risto and Pulock are going to slide into the late teens, early 20's, Zadorov and Nurse are going to get taken where they're expected to go, and Morrissey, Muller and Morin are going to be trending up.
Flyers are sooooo taking a forward. |

Both are converted forwards... I'd have some reservations about taking either at 11. |

I don't care if they're converted goaltenders or converted Catholics. They're damn good defenseman. If they end up converting back (hopefully not to Catholicism) playing as second line wingers, that wouldn't be terrible. |

I have that same feeling... but would love for them to draft Pulock. I have had serious interest in this kid (and Domi) for a while now. My silver-lining to us digging ourselves out of the pits (as well as a top 5 pick) was that Pulock would be available. I think he is gonna be one hell of a player. |

Dear Danny,
I watch the Flyers because of you. I started watching hockey because of you.
You caught my eye immediately. I could pick you out anytime you were on the ice. So I learned your name quickly, and learned to enjoy your play even faster. Even after spending time learning the names of your line then the whole team I could not shake the joy of watching you play. I asked for your jersey as my birthday present a few years ago.
I just want you to know that there are people out there who care for you not because of the goals you score but rather because you make the game worth watching. Thank you.
I’ll be watching your games and cheering you on whenever you touch the ice no matter what team. You'll be missed.
FlyersGrace
Say what you will, he's was good for this team. And I understand why he's leaving. He was never perfect on or off the ice, but I'm proud to have been his fan. And I don't say that lightly or often. - FlyersGrace
Awesome post Grace, I'm with you 100%!!

Pulock has taken the transition in stride and really has become very reliable in his own end. He plays with a physical edge that can cost him at times, but for the most part, his positioning is fantastic. He was relied heavily upon this year as not only a offensive d-man, and he responded very well. I dont think it will be an issue at all. Kids way to heady. |
