If they're intent on taking their chances with a dman @11, might as swing for the fences... Morin, Nurse and Zadorov have way higher ceilings than Risto and Pulock. - Tomahawk
Totally disagree about Morin, he is enourmous and is getting an edge, but has literally demonstrated zero offense. 4 goals in his Q career? Could he develop his, some say yes, others say no.. I personally dont think so. Nurse and Zadorov are HUGE question marks, but agree with the degree of potential!
You know that at the bare minimum with Pulock, you have a guy that will run your first unit PP. |

Kinda like how Chara scored 3 goals in his junior career?
And couldn't hit the side of a barn in his first four professional seasons? |

I like McGinn. Big (cheap) forward who didn't look out of place anywhere in the lineup. I'm not opposed to moving him if he gets us a 1st, but would be a bit hesitant giving up him as well as a 2nd and 3rd for a late 1st. I'd rather just use the 2nd. - jmatchett383
perhaps, although as Flyers fans, we have a tendency to overrate our prospects. McGinn may turn out to be a solid power forward who can get you 20+ goals per year, however he could just as easily turn out to be a 4th liner who is in and out of the lineup. In a draft that just about every scout thinks is extremely deep, I would rather have the 24th pick than the 41st or McGinn and if takes the 71st too so be it. |

Yeah, talking about pure upside, not so much likelihood to hit that upside. 1st-round dmen tend to be boom or bust no matter how "safe" the picks look on draft day... if the odds are already stacked against you, and you're OK with that, might as well go for broke.
Me? I'd rather take a forward @11 and take D the rest of the way. |

Homer, don't listen to Tomahawk. (and delete him from your speed-dial)
Pick D or be ready to trade those forwards. |

Unless Seth Jones falls to #11, they better take a forward. |

Would you be happy if the Flyers traded Coburn and 11th for B.Ryan and 26th, then traded Read and 26th for Bernier and Forbort? - youarewrong

my thoughts on the way the flyers will approach the draft is that they are looking to change up the blue line sooner than later. With how much money tied up on D as it is and with Timonen retiring next year, they may feel acquiring NHL ready players is the best way to do that since defenseman take longer to develop.
I think they may take a forward who is much closer to the NHL so they can afford to trade some offensive players they have now to meet their needs on D. I'm thinking about this in a time frame of over the next year. |

I have had this same feeling. I still think they move up in the draft for Barkov or Nichushkin and trade Couturier for a defenseman.

They're generally more patient with later round picks, too... a dman they take in the 2nd round or later (like Bourdon, Marshall, Ghost) is going to get more leeway in terms of development time than guys like Pitkanen and Sbisa did. They're always trying to bring their 1st-rounders into the lineup immediately. |
