I have had this same feeling. I still think they move up in the draft for Barkov or Nichushkin and trade Couturier for a defenseman. - youarewrong
Again, trading your best defensive forward for a defenseman is so counterproductive it's stupid. They won't trade Coots for a dman. If they trade him I imagine he'd be involved in a reach for Nichushkin or Barkov. |

Going into the draft, I would rate the top 15 prospects as follows:
1. MacKinnon C
2. Jones D
3. Drouin C/W
4. Nichushkin W
5. Barkov C
6. Monahan C
7. Lindholm C
8. Nurse D
9. Pulock D
10. Shinkaruk C/W
11. Ristolainen D
12. Zadorov D
13. Domi C
14. Wennberg C
15. Horvat C
I can't see anyway the top 5 are available at pick 11, nor do think there is much of chance at Monahan, Lindholm or Nurse being there either. So, looking at numbers 9-15, my order of preference for the Flyers would be:
1. Ristolainen - Of all the D prospects after Jones, I think he is the safest bet to be a solid top 4 defenseman with mobility, size and some nastiness in his game. I also he has a shot at becoming a top pair guy.
2. Pulock - 101 mph shot, plays physical, reads the game well. Skating may be his only drawback, but a lot of very successful NHL defenseman are only average skaters and very few of them have 101 mph slap shots
3. Shinkaruk - his skills are excellent, his shot is lethal and he is a good skater. If he were 1 or 2 inches taller and 10-15lbs heavier he might be a top 5 pick. There are some scouts who question his desire to pay the price physically to make a play, but that would be the only drawback I can see.
4. Zadorov - 18 years old, 6'4 230 and hits to hurt. Sounds pretty good to me. There is some potential for his offensive game to develop too. At the very least he could be a more mobile version of Nick Grossmann and that's not bad.
5. Domi - much like Shinkarkuk, if he was a little bigger he very well could be in the discussion for the top 5. He has very good speed and his skills are exceptional. Much like his old man, he has a low center of gravity and for a small man is pretty hard to knock off the puck. Also every scouting report I've read raves about his work ethic and that can only be a plus.
6. Wennberg - The classic safe pick, though 11 may be a bit high for him. One of those guys who just does everything well. I haven't been able to find a single scouting report that doesn't say he is lock to play in the NHL and will most likely be a top 6 forward.
7. Horvat - BoHo saw his stock shoot up due to his phenomenal play in the memorial cup playoffs. That being said, scouts are very mixed on him. Some see a future Rod Brind'amour type, while others see a very good 3rd line checking center with some offensive upside. With Couturier and Laughton already in the fold, I can only see the Flyers drafting him if they trade down and/or if they trade Schenn or Couturier. |

They will if that is the asking price. They have Giroux, Schenn, and Laughton coming up. Plus if they trade up for Nichushkin or Barkov they are natural centers too, though they both also play wing.
Add to the fact Carolina wants a top 4 defenseman for the pick, and not a center, and we have too many top 4 defenseman with the addition of Streit.... yea... |

I love it. We have very similiar draft board. Was just working on mine and my article at lunch. Not so sure Jersey takes Pulock at 9, but I can see why they would. I can't see them passing up on a Domi or Shink, but Pulock would certainly help their future blueline.
Great stuff. |

I had my 6 for Philly (ruling out the obvious guys) 1) Pulock 2) Risto 3) Shinkaruk 4) Nurse 5) Erne (the surprise pick) and 6) Zadorov. Heavy emphasis on those top two, even if Nurse falls, which there is an outside chance he does. |

Could be worse. That would help keep him away from New York and those classless Kansas City Penguins.
At this point of his career I think he needs the right combination of linemates - and a clean bill of health - to be productive. - cmr.266

Hypothetical question. If you could trade your 22 roster players for the first 22 picks in this draft, would you? |

am i reading this wrong? or in this hypothetical, would you move what you consider to be the top 6 players off of the flyers team, for the top 6 picks in this draft? thats an interesting concept. at first i thought id think the flyers were giving up too much, but now i am unsure of what i was thinking. |

He won't be cheap. The cap floor teams will ruin this UFA market - especially after the amnesty buy outs. |
