Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option) - PLindbergh31

So, Bernier is gone, and I am not crying about it. Lots of options out there.
I for one would like to see a trade with ANA involving Hiller and Ryan. What would it take on our part you think? - Bearintheforest
Anaheim would most likely want: B. Schenn or pick #11, Read and a D prospect, most likely Ghost; this is why I would NOT make this deal! |

If Mason is terrible, can he be much worse than posting the 900 save % that Bryzgalov posted last year? At least if Mason provides similar numbers he's doing it at a fraction of the cap hit. - PLindbergh31
Did you ever watched him in Columbus? How about a 3.39 GAA and a .894 Save %? I like Mason but he's going to have to give me a lot more than 7 games before I ignore his past 4 years as a Number 1 in Columbus. He's a reclaimation project that is going well. Let's just not rush him okay? |

Agreed, giving up valuable assets for a guy who has NEVER been a #1 at the NHL level is just foolish. |

Goals against is a team stat, stopping the puck is more so the goalie, his 3 down years were still at .90% or close to, check Bryzgalov's numbers and compare them, as well as the money your paying.
As well he's what 26? How many goalies start to mature around then? Most of them. |

I didn't like the reports either but I didn't want to move more pieces/picks for a real unknown as a #1 in a trade.

I understand where you are coming from. 7 games of meaningless hockey shouldn't be a deciding factor. The kid has a pedigree, he won a Calder trophy, and then lost his way. The talent is there, he's got to get in between his ears fixed. Is it a given that happens? Of course not.
That being said, I don't want to bring in a 30+ high priced guy like Miller, or Luongo. Flyers are back to square 1 in between the pipes. What else is new. So frustrating that the solution was right under their nose in Bobrovsky and the entire organization screwed the pooch. |

The Flyers top prospect on the backend. The fact that he's small enough to stand on top of Wedding cakes, shouldn't be a concern to anyone. |

I don't think anyone believes that Mason is a lock to be a top notch #1 goalie. What I do think is that he showed enough down the stretch to at least be given a shot.
I would try to sign either Backstrom (if the cost and length of deal are reasonable) or Emery and let them compete with Mason.
I am big fan of showing some patience. I think Coburn, if used properly, will have a bounce back season and if Grossmann is not healthy by October, you can always acquire a Huskins type to compete with Lauridsen until the big guy is ready to go. The only defenseman I would trade, mainly for cap reasons, is Mez. I just don't think you can afford 4 million in cap space for 3rd pair guy with injury issues
Personally, I would be very happy with Pulock or Ristolainen at #11 and the following roster:
G-Mason
G-Emery or Backstrom
D-Timonen
D-Schenn
D-Coburn
D-Streit
D-Grossmann
D-Gus
D-Ristolainen, Pulock or Gervais if the kid isn't ready to step in.
call-ups: Lauridsen and either Manning or Bourdon if he is healthy
Lines:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Zubrus
Talbot-Laughton-Rinaldo
spare forward: Rosehill
call-ups: McGinn, Holmstrom and maybe Cousins |

I don't know if Bernier is gonna be a great goalie or not, but what I do know is its not easy to find 25 yr old former 1st round picks who have been groomed slowly. To me he's got a pretty good chance to succeed. I hear some of you how there are other options but I didn't want another vet like Backstrom or Emery. It's no guarantee but it'd be nice to try and get a young goalie who wil be here awhile. The flyers have a terrible track record with their 2nd rounders, when they actually ise them. I wouldn't have thought twice about giving that up with Read. I think a lot of people are getting carried away with Matt read too. I think at his age, his ceiling is a good 2nd liner, but I'm not ready to give him 4 million a yr yet |
