Jakub Voracek. I don't doubt Giroux can find the twine more moving forward, too. - BulliesPhan87
I have no doubt about this. We have guys who can score but is Voracek a guy we can trust to tie or take over a game when the game is on the line? I'm not gonna say no. I'm just thinking Ryan might be able to do it more often. |

If Mike Richards and Jeff Carter never played in Philadelphia, if they had both been drafted and played for the Calgary Flames, there isn't a single person who objectively watches this sport as a fan of the Flyers who wouldn't do those two deals.
Not a single person. |

I'm watching Hockey Central at Noon. Apparently LA wanted Sean Courturier and these guys are scratching their heads at why LA likes Matt Fratton so much. To be honest, they watch the Leafs a lot. I've seen plenty of Matt Fratton and I totally agree with them. |

It's not a terrible trade or anything, I just think they already had a similar option in Reimer.
A tweet that caught my attention:
James O'Brien @cyclelikesedins
Just the basics: Reimer's career save % - .915 in 104 GP; Bernier's: .912 in 62 GP; Scrivens': .910 in 32 GP. - BulliesPhan87
yea, i saw that. should be interesting in TOR this yr. maybe some guys thrive as a #1 and other may wilt. if bernier takes the ball and runs w/ it, it's a good trade. otherwise, if he's just a rotation guy, both guys are the same, it's still fairly solid as long as they're making momentum saves. |

I think Voracek (who just so happened to score more goals than Ryan last year, his first year on a top line) will do just fineeee. |

I like Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, I do. Standing next to Claude Giroux, I think they both can be slightly overrated. I don't think either of their games are nearly as balanced as Giroux's. I was very upset when both were traded but the Richards return alone I'm in love with. It could go either way for me, I liked the pressures of Richards being the Captain more then I like it on Giroux. |

The Bernier trade really illustrates the value of having viable NHL players on their entry level contracts in the salary cap era.
Obviously Read would have been from a pure hockey standpoint a very fair return for Bernier. But when you factor in LA's cap situation, Read becomes only a one year rental for LA. Much like he may be for the Flyers at this point.
Toronto had 2 decent players who are still on entry level deals.
Frattin could likely fill a second or third line role when LA loses Penner, and they got a decent backup to Quick.
Lombardi did extremely well here, given the real risk of losing Bernier to an offer sheet and only getting draft picks back.
I guess if Bernier turns into a franchise goalie the Leafs have done well also. Time will tell.
Keeping your draft picks and having decent players on their entry level deals is hugely valuable today.
Trading picks for older players and UFAs has to stop for this team. - Marc D

Which, of course, he didn't get until he moped and sulked his way out of Columbus.
We can all agree to disagree on many things. But it's not like Dean Lombardi sat there and said when those trades were made, "Hey, I gotta have Jeff Carter, too."
Lombardi didn't say that, at all. As a matter of fact, he preferred Jarome Iginla, waited for him. He only acquired Carter because Columbus was desperate to get him out of there and because he was desperate for scoring. |

Voracek did score more goals then Ryan this season but it's one season. It's a shorten season. There was no training camp. In fact i'm pretty sure Voracek played during the lockout and Ryan didn't.
I think very little about this past season reflects much on teams or individual players. |

I imagine this to be a picture of Carter, curled up in the fetal position and in tears, after looking at a map and finding out where Columbus, OH was located. |

The one thing I know about Voracek, was that he came to the Flyers a wee bit out of shape and overweight... and took a few weeks to really get back to his top level.
Ill take our ppg dynamic right winger over paying for Bobby Ryan 25 days week. |

Giroux is AT BEST average defensively.
His game is offense. Richards is about as balanced as they come. |
