Slim pickins.
Actually, no pickins.
Not one name on there I'd have interest in seeing in orange and black. |

Funny.. i thought the total opposite. I feel as though the Flyers have the ability to pick or choose who they want to go tandem with Mason (assuming they buy out bryzdawg) |

Nobody long term, but there's a few names that would be good stop gaps.
I'm not necessarily looking to get a guy locked in for the next 5 years here. I'd be looking at solidifying the position fr a year or two with a short term deal and keeping an eye out.
That way, Mason gets a real shot and you're not wedded to a guy for half a decade. |

There are just too many distractions. We are well past the point of him being able to play past it. The media here has made up their minds about him, and if he is playing well, and the distractions are at a minimum, they will create the distractions. The Flyers have probably recognized this, as has the league.
Maybe they think that if they make the CBO announcement now, they will be putting themselves in a weakened negotiating position when it comes to signing a free agent or trading for a goalie. - MBFlyerfan
that's what i'm thinking |

Ive been a supporter, but even I cant see any good in keeping him at this point... especially after the Winter comments, and Bryz's supposed "Ill be paid double" comment... |

I'm going to Vent - I just logged on and I didn't read anything yet, so I apologize if people have already been talking about it. but here goes: Why didn't Homer offer Read, Stolarz and a second rounder for Bernier?? I mean, IMO, Frattin isn't as good as Read and Toronto gave up Scrivens, but who cares, Quick isn't going anywhere and a 2nd or 3rd rounder? come on!! Huge mistake by the flyers!! Makes me not even wanna watch the draft now......so damn frustrating - but shouldn't I be used to that by now?? ugh. |

brad thinks halak could be had for a pick if STL is ready to roll w/ Allen/elliot & I'd be fine w/ that. |

I have never been on the ship out Bryz's bandwagon and I think he has a point with the media. I just don't see a good fit here for him any longer. His play hasn't been near what it should be. His salary hit while not his fault is an albatross. Buy him out and move on. |

How do you know the Flyers didn't offer that? Read Bill's blog. He spells it out why LA went with Toronto's offer.

Yep. There's also trade targets. Halak. Reimer. Maybe the Caps would be willing to move Neuvirth. - Jsaquella
Let me try one more time. As you know I am a big fan of Holmgren's style. But, he has to cope with one of the most impatient ownerships in the league.
Bobrovsky was probably a casualty coming out of the Bryzgalov contract. Had the Flyers not signed Bryzgalov, they likely would not have exposed themselves by dealing Bob. They tried to hit a home run by signing Weber and lost Carle during the negotiations.
Sometimes an organization needs to impose some patience, discipline on itself. Holmgren is a really smart GM. I think he knows that there is a very good chance that the "next" goalie may struggle behind this D. In some losses Bryzgalov made the result closer than it should have been.
Am I entirely wrong? I thought Bryzgalov was superb in some of the games I saw him play last year. |

Who is to say Holmgren didn't offer that? And who is to say that Lombardi didn't simply prefer the idea of acquiring two NHL roster players (one being a goaltender) instead of one who can be a UFA next summer plus a goaltending prospect who, at best, is three years from potentially being NHL ready. On top of it, Toronto took on $500K worth of dead space on its own cap to free up more cap space for LA (which is something the Flyers weren't in position to do).

I'm pretty much OK with the idea that the Flyers didn't give up a solid player like Read for a guy that MIGHT be a good goaltender.
Furthermore, I enjoyed reading the Toronto hockey wonks talk themselves into how good of a deal getting Bernier was for Toronto.
Dean Lombardi turned a backup goaltender into 2 roster players and cap space. Pretty awesome deal for LA. |

I don't feel strongly about acquiring any of them, but I do feel strongly about NOT getting Tim Thomas. I just don't see how he would help them off the ice considering the complaints about Bryz's personality. |

Because that's too high a price to pay for an unproven goalie.
Also, Frattin is a pending RFA, which helps LA retain guys and keep him at a lower cost than the UFA to be Read. Toronto is also eating $500K, which helps LA's cap and it's something the Flyers were probably unwilling to do.
If not overpaying for a 24 year old goalie with 62 career games under his belt ruins the draft for you, I have no advice. |

With your cap issues, Theodore is very realistic for one year. I still think he's a quality option as a backup, assuming he can stay healthy. I'd try to sign Chad Johnson as a sleeper #3 option as well. He played well with the few games Phoenix used him. |

Bottom line, Bryz is a good goalie. In the right system, he is a very good goalie. I am would who would like to see him stay if it wasn't for the amount of years. If we had changed pur style a little sooner, Bryz would had gone undefeated the last 10 games. The contract is the killer, not Bryz. I feel Homer has a strong plan in place. I stated late last night, if Kovalchuk gets bought out, I'm taking a long hard look at him. Offense has gone down some , however, his 2 way play is world's better. |
