ah. as funny as that is it also hurts to see! its hard to understand that they are people too sometimes i guess, although they have done much to remind everyone of that fact to great, questionable lengths.
thank god maiden has done largely the opposite - stayinthefnnet
Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are untouchable, imo. I've seen both in the past few years, and they've still got it. Metallica... well, I still like a lot of their music. |

There is a difference between a lead guitarist and rythem guitarist, and Hetfield is one of the best at rythem guitarists.
I would also be open to Les Claypool, Cliff Burton, or John Paul Jones.... - youarewrong
John Paul Jones is more noted as a bassist and keyboardist.

Who is a bigger sell-out. Someone that makes millions and lives the life of a millionaire, or someone that makes millions but still dresses like they eat ramen every night?
Yes Metallica sold out... every seat, in every arena they have played for the past 25 years. |

well, being young i havent had the chance to see these guys in the 80s. ive only seen metallica once, about four or five years ago at the wells fargo. i guess it was partly just to finally getting to see them, but the show and setlist was decent. a shell of the stuff back in the day though, but i still didnt go away regretting the experience. same goes for priest.
maiden however, i have yet to be anything but blown away. i see them every chance i get, and see no reason to continue doing so |

He's not, though. Keith Richard is a brilliant rhythm guitarist. Townshend is a great rhythm guitarist, even though technically he's a lead guitar in The Who. Stone Gossard is a very good rhythm guitarist.
I wouldn't call Hetfield a great rhythm guitarist. He plays thrash well, sure.
Claypool, Burton, Entwhistle, Steve Harris, Chris Squire-all superior to Butler. |

Really going out on a limb on that one... When was the last time the Flyers didn't make a big Slash... Even when we swing and miss... weber, suter, parise... it is still a big splash. |

i dont hate them for that. and i dont even hate them for the change in style of music. its hard to still be the same angry youthful person when you are still in your 40s and 50s with families.
my bone to pick has always been with just the moments that scream money grabs, or bumhole attitude. |

I wouldn't call anyone in Metallica great at anything. I'd call them plain old mediocre. But that's just a personal opinion. Don't care for them, or that type of music.

Probably not. Said Bryz was more concerned with what kind of marble he was going to get in his house then worrying about hockey.

Or... maybe a band that drops solos and cuts their hair because their A&R guy tells them that's the only way they'll keep selling records.
IMO, it's been nothing but downhill after Kill 'Em All. |

Metallica is arguably the most influential band of the past 30 years, and Hetfield’s sound is the hugest part of that band, which is really saying something. From the beginning with Kill Em’ All, Hetfield’s righthand precision, speed, and power would set a standard that all aspiring metal rhythm guys would struggle to match. “Maybe it’s the German in me,” says Hetfield, “but I always want the rhythms to be precise. It’s hard to escape. It’s how I play.” The other thing that Hetfield popularized was the way to get the maximum heaviness out of riffs. “Downpicking is the key!” he exclaims. “It’s tighter sounding and a lot chunkier.” Who are we to argue?
