He can be a good goalie. He can be the next Jim Carey. Hopefully Stolarz can become a franchise goalie, or some combo of Bryz/Mason/mystery goalie B can become the answer. - jmatchett383
They can still go out and trade for another young goalie that has a lot of potential, too.
Ottawa has Robin Lehner...Maybe he's untouchable, maybe he isn't. The Ducks have several good young goalies. |

I think the Flyers need a more agile goaltender, if they're not going to change the way they play. - bradleyc4
It would be better, but Thomas isn't exactly a technique guy...I'd worry more about rust than his ability to play behind their defense. |

If they could (somehow) get Gibson without giving up the farm, I'd do it. Same with Jack Campbell. I have a soft spot for Team USA gold medal winning goalies. |

Good blog. I am not quite sure why the Leafs decided to go get Bernier. I feel like Reimer has proven himself worthy of a chance to be the full time starter.
Also, I won tickets to the NHL Draft via the Devils' lottery thing. I never win stuff like this so I'm pretty pumped. Can't wait for Sunday! |

Make sure you bring a bullhorn and use it to heckle any GM that takes time to thank the city of Newark and the Devils for their hospitality.
Repeating over and over, "STFU and make the pick!!" should suffice. |

Wouldn't be surprised to see another mega trade with Anaheim that would bring Ryan and Hiller to Philly. |

That's the thing, I like Bernier, but locking into one guy is part of the Flyers issues when it comes to building a team. The locked into Bryz and ended up bidding against themselves. They could have cast the net wider and had Vokoun or somebody else for less $$ and years.
People lock into a Bernier or Ryan and their worlds collapse when it doesn't happen. That's dumb. There's other options. |

The only way Homer can save face with this whole Bernier debacle is to make a move for Robbie Stevenson. Plain and simple.. the kid is the real deal. |

i think nonis wants to lock down the position because the leafs have to keep going forward. they are now expected to make the plyoffs and start doing damage...tons of pressure up there. |

I still don't get the Bobby Ryan idea. We just had a player )hopefully) blossom into a top-line right wing in Voracek. Bobby Ryan would force him down a line, and while I'm fine with depth at forward, it will cost the Flyers on defense. With Meszaros and Grossmann as question marks right now, I'm not ready to move Coburn and other assets to acquire him. |

Robert Shane Stevenson. Elite, top talent, sniping right winger. |

It still doesn't seem like much a huge upgrade to me, but then I've always thought Bernier was overhyped. Not a bad player to have, just overhyped for how little he's played in the big league. |

Yeah, that was a real forgettable one.
On a leaguewide basis, 2004 turned out to be a decent draft crop. For the Flyers, however, it was one strikeout after another among the 11 picks they held. David Laliberte was as good as it got for the Flyers. Among the biggest misses, there were four future 220-plus NHL game players selected within 11 picks of their third round selection, Rob Bellamy, who topped out as an AHL fourth-liner. There was also a future convicted murderer (Ladislav Scurko) among the Flyers' picks that year. - bmeltzer

I'm not advocating for Bobby Ryan, I just wouldn't be surprised to see him dealt for. Although I think the preoccupation with Ryan stems mostly from the media and some vocal fans, there has been a lot of kicking tires with the Ducks for him over the past few years. Maybe Holmgren really likes him or something. |

they obviously had doubts about reimer and didn't want to hitch their wagon to him. needing goaltending during the season is a poor leverage situation, so they're getting out in front, i guess. |
