I disagree somewhat. The Doors were outclassed by LZ, but I still think they were pretty unique and special. I'm a guitarist and I think each of the Doors displayed pretty impressive musicianship at times. Kreiger had that rockabilly Chuck Berry, Richard Dale fusion sound and Manzarek was adept creating a variety of soundscapes on keys to set the tone...Densmore was really good with that signature snare and an acute dynamic sensibility which allowed him to add drama or subtle touches and Jim's crooning vocals were a point of distinction versus the bands of the time. Yeah, some of the songs were simple blues or whatever, but others were not exactly rudimentary...they had more sophisticated arrangements at times with some good improv jams (live). If you look at it, their body of work includes a wide variety of styles and sounds...Roadhouse Blues to Spanish Caravan to Wild Child to The End...When the Music's Over, Waiting For the Sun, Peace Frog, Soul Kitchen, The Crystal Ship, 20th Century Fox, the WASP...all great tunes imo. I don't get all carried away with Morrisson and the Lizard King and that whole trip, but I just think they were a great band around for too short a time... - exlund
LZ is the best band of all time. They had a unique sound and could mix/invent a lot of things. Robert Plant was one of the best vocals, Jimmy Page a superb guitarrist, John Bonham (listen to In my time of Dying) was pretty good...John Paul Jones...what can I say. We are talking about a complete/creative band. |

LZ is definitely way up there. Jimmy Page is a musical genius. |

Give credit to Robbie Plant as well
Go to youtube and listen to "In My time of Dying" drums. Fast forward to the 03:40 minute and go from there til the end. You might wanna use some earphones |

Yeah. They had some lean years. They have been very smart the last 5 years. They obviously have the right people in place now making hockey decisions. Toews is a fantastic player, when you have talents like Kane, Sharp, Hossa and stud blueliners like Keith and Seabrooke on the backend, the results are what you see. Crawford has been very solid on goal too. - PLindbergh31
At one point, I'm pretty sure Bill Wirtz saw to it that Blackhawks games weren't broadcast on local TV unless the national networks picked up the game.

I hear you on that (I was at many of those train wreck games.....just brutal).
But just Patrick Kane alone wouldn't help this team.
Gotta hand it to the Hawks. They've developed their people, made good trades/signings, and now they have two Cups. They also had to go through a number of years where they just plain sucked. - johndewar
Even though I feel the Pens flirt with that fine line of being great and overrated, the same could be said about them. Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury weren't tough finds in the draft. They sucked for a long time as well. |

to most drummers, bonzo's 16th note triplets (good times bad times), funky vibe and sheer volume applied musically mark him as one of the top 5 or 10 rock drummers of all time. |

I've never really lamented the entire Kane/JVR situation. Sure it's frustrating to sit through a trainwreck season like that and not get rewarded, but such is life.
My issue is more with all the mind numbing stupid trades. Giving guys like Sharp, Justin Williams, Bob among others away for literally nothing is hard to swallow. - PLindbergh31
there are always circumstances that lead to any move. easy to say stupid in hindsight, but often they address immediate needs that are born out of the unexpected, like moving williams for markov because of the decimation to their defense. markov was a great addition, and it sucks he didn't return after the lockout. he was terrific for them during the 04 run.
no room in the lineup or guys not meshing with coaches - that poop happens. when you look at all the ex-flyers over the last decade that have gone on to win the cup - it's tough to swallow. |

I can't speak technically about it. But just in listening, he is among the best. If not the best. |

The way they've made their exits out of the playoffs in recent years, I lean towards overrated. As the Hawks and Bruins have displayed, it's a team game and there is no reason to focus on 1 or two players. |

Fair points Hammar. Sometimes the only way to view a trade is through hindsight. What the players do after the trade is made determines if it's a good trade. |

I would concur. I'm listening to Kashmir right now, backed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Sheer genius. |

easy to say, but you can't worry about the guy you move. you worry about the guy you get, and don't compare. |

and speaking of bonham's drumming - my favorite thing he did ever were the 3 fills on Achilles' Last Stand.
there's no point in arguing about music though. people like what they like. |

I think the band is most proud of Kashmir and the eclectic style on Physical Grafitti. they don't like to be associated w/ heavy metal, but I don't mind. |

Arguing over music is like arguing over taste in women. Lots of room for differences of opinion. |

Just about everything they have recorded is amazing. There is a video on youtube of Jimmy Page with Edge, and Jack White and he explains how Kashmir came about. Fascinating stuff. |

Absolutely. Hell, for me, I can pop on classic Van Halen and happily while away the evening.
But I like the Stones, Beatles, Who, Metallica, Megadeth, Cream, Floyd...it's all got it's good and bad. - Jsaquella
I'm a pretty big 90's guy. As I stated last night then made a quick exit to watch the Final at a bar, I'm drawn morre to Tool, STP, SoundGarden, Oasis and the Foo Fighters.
@Youarewrong, you were wrong. I was born in 1982. |
