Bryz will be backup for Bob next year. |

Bryz out.

With the cap ceiling coming down. With Briere and Bryzgalov moving on. With the loss of small minor contracts such as Shelley, Fedetanko, Lilja, Walker, Knuble, Gagne and then with the signing of Mark Streit, what does this leave us left over with? |

If your going to move up it shouldnt be to select Monohan. The only reason to move up IMO would be for any of the top 5. Other then that, IMO we either don't need them, or would be better served staying at 11.
Example: I would rather draft Rist or Pullock then move up to take Nurse.
We do not need to move up to get a player like Monohan when we have Schenn, Giroux, Couturier, Laughton, and Cousins... It would be a waist of assetts. As a matter of fact if Monohan dropped to us, I would be okay trading down 1-2 spots if the return was favorable. - youarewrong
I feel likewise. Just someone mention drafting Monahan and I was curious what the ramification would be regarding other centers. The Flyers do seem to draft best available so June 30 will be interesting. |

After seeing that TSN video on Nurse (right side), and his Jagr-ish work ethic, I'm kind of starting to warm up to the kid. - Tomahawk
What about his hockey IQ, though? Does he have it? If not, you can have all the tools in the world and never progress beyond a #4 guy in the NHL. |

I believe roughly 9 million with Pronger on LTIR, but I could be wrong. Though Pronger's 4.9 hit is with us all summer until the start of the year. |

I guess they didn't feel like waiting for a replacement first, as was rumored.
I'll bet they get a cheap scrub backup, someone like Cedric Desjardins, and put Mason through the wringer next year.

I believe we get a full 10% over the cap hit over the summer as well... But that balances with the fact you can't LTIR Pronger's money in the summer either... So basically it's a wash.
I'll let the number crunchers get to work. |

Wow. That is a good one. Never heard that before.
The forwards arent the problem. They have/had plenty of players capable of playing 2 ways. Couturier, Read, Talbot, Rinaldo, Fedotenko, Gagne, Schenn, Voracek.
Only guys I see as being a liability are/were Briere, Hartnell, Simmonds, and maybe Giroux... though he is capable of playing a decent defensive game when not pressing attack.
The reason they were out of position a lot of the time was because the defenseman often lost assignments, or coughed up the puck, or couldn't clear the puck.
It is nothing the Gagner would solve. A faster defense capable of moving the puck will help.
I am right. - youarewrong
If the puck isn't in the defensive zone, it won't stay in the defensive zone. The biggest problem last year was misplaced aggression on the forecheck. We were 3 men deep below the face off dots, when the defenseman would have clear possession of the puck and it took one chip off the boards to clear it against us, with forwards to back them up and take the puck up ice. We were giving teams a clean breakout.
