No independent arbitrator for Thornton ...
Disappointing. The system isn't going to change until somebody questions it and puts it in the spotlight. |

Damn - Cape Breton Bruins
as i said the the other day, the cap hit doesn't make sense
yes, the canes could pick up part of it but i'm sure the price would have been a lot higher for that to happen

Pretty soft return for Gleason ...
Problem for us would have been his salary after this season. We're going to have to clear salary as we stand right now, so taking more long-term salary on now just wouldn't have worked.
I fully expect Chiarelli to stand pat and use the kids we have in the system until the deadline, where he'll more-than-likely overpay for some ineffective "depth". |

Perhaps. I'm just a fan of the player and always considered him a good fit for our style here. There are some economical ramifications of acquiring him but as a GM you have to be creative to improve your team, which I feel Gleason would have.
Oh well he's the enemy now. |

I kind of get the feeling this years team isn't quite as well oiled as past years. Got blown out a few times and losing to teams like the Sabres and now the isles at home. New faces, injuries and suspensions have played a part but this team has a lot of work to do if they want to make the same noise they have in recent seasons.
As I said having a healthy orate will be the first step towards that. |

it's still early
we have a ton of injuries
we also have a ton of kids who might be able to take up #44 spot
will they be as good as he is, no
but to pay $4mil for gleason this year + 2 others makes no sense
especially with the kids we have
see who steps up the most in the next month and pick up a vet like klesla if need be for veteran help |

nope
listen to me damnit, i brought that up the other day |

As it stands now, without taking on any more salary at all, we're going to have to part with at least 3+ million to re-up some of the UFA's and RFA's.
Bye bye Kelly. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bart traded as well. |

Two years is probably too long considering the young guys we have coming. Pisses me off he landed on the leafs tho. He's a fine dman.

Common thought is it'll go up pretty substantially. Still not a great contract to absorb considering the kids going forward

I'd like to see Khudobin back in black and gold, but I think it's time we start sorting out which of these up and comers really are and who isn't. |

"We’re going to look from within and see how it works out,” Chiarelli said. “We’ll get Dougie back (tonight) and we’ll see how the group comes together. After that I’ll make an assessment on whether we need to add somebody. If you’re asking me if something is going to happen in a week? No. Two weeks? No. I haven’t made any calls; I haven’t delved into that yet. I know who’s available just from making my routine calls over the course of time. There’s a fair amount (of defensemen) available. Nothing is perfect. You’re not going to replace Dennis.
“If I’m not satisfied with how the group is defensively, then I would look. But we’re still two, three, four weeks away from that, at least. In short, I don’t like the looseness. I understand it’s a long year and we’ve got to work our way through this stuff. I would just hope we get a little tighter defensively.” |
