Interesting that PC says in his presser this morning that B's didn't even offer Vinny a contract and never really intended to after meeting with him. Funny how wrong the media heavy hitters can be sometimes.

@FriedgeHNIC: Hearing that Rask extension -- although not done yet -- will be in the 8 year/$56M range.

Pretty much expected $...but sure is a lot....

For Ottawa's hockey fans it is downright unfathomable to consider Daniel Alfredsson wearing any other jersey than the Senators', but Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli isn't letting that get in the way of trying to make it a reality.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN reported today that Chiarelli – a former Senators executive himself – reached out to Alfredsson's camp and spoke with them “at great length” in hopes of luring the pending agent to Boston for the coming season.

Chiarelli was believed to be interested in acquiring Alfredsson at the 2013 NHL Trade Deadline, but the Senators – still in the playoff hunt at the time – did not opt to move their franchise face.

The 2012-13 season marked the final one for the 40-year-old Alfredsson on a four-year deal he signed prior to 2009-10 worth an annual average value of $4.875 million. His 2012-13 salary was $1 million.

from lebrun

"- Agent Paul Krepelka, who represents Nathan Horton, said his client was visiting with a team Wednesday but wouldn’t disclose which. Look for whoever signs Horton to be in a non-traditional hockey market. Horton is looking for a quieter place than Boston to continue his career."

Really surprised at the Alfie talk. I think if anywhere I could see the B's being the team he picks with the old Sens ties. That said, can't see him playing anywhere but Ottawa. Sounds like he wants to play there and they want him back. They'll get it done.

Alfie scenario: CBA allows for teams to spend over the cap on 35+ players using the bonus cushion. However, the overage is deducted next yr.

Interesting, 1 year contract, min base, load up on easy incentives? Not that you want to do that and screw yourself the following year, but its an interesting option.

Am I the only one here who's hoping we can do better here than 40 year old "Alfie" ???

Seems like every time Chiarelli has a hole to fill on the forward corps, he goes with an aged-out vet or just a straight up downgrade from what was there before.

alfie is not in the same class as jagr and iginla imo
still a hell of a 2 way player and he clearly has no issue scoring in boston that's for sure

Not entirely sure who you're referring to. Other than Rex, who turned out to be a pretty good add. Jags was a bit of a bust I guess.

I assume you're not comparing Alfie to Pandolfo and Chris Clark?

I would prefer Briere on a two year deal at around $4m. Trade Peverley and sign Kobasew on the cheap.

prefer to let a guy like spooner get a real shot before you start looking at guys like kobasew
need a backup goalie too..hopefully they can keep borat
if holmgren was smart he would have been going after him

It's too bad Spoons is a lefty who thrives at center. Same with Soderberg. It'd be less of a conundrum if one of those guys could get a legit shot in an offensive role on the right side.

Right now we've got Caron and Knight which, lord help us if they're our 2nd line options.

I guess there's an outside shot for guys like Camper and Griffith to get a look too with a dynamite camp. I still think you need at least one RW from outside the org that can play with either Bergy or Krejci lines and hope for a kid to win that 3RW spot.
