I hope they do trade for him. On the open market has going to demand BIG money.
Two questions...
What year do you think Luongo retire? (Or really how many solid seasons does he have left)
What will the cap be in your best estimate when he does retire?
Now go to capgeeks cap recapture calc and plug it in.
If we trade for Lu this season and he plays 5 more years in Philly (until he is 39) the cap recapture penalty will be $1.726 million .. Per 4 seasons. If the cap is $90 million in 2018 that's less than 2% of our cap space affected by Lu's early retirement. To me its not that big of a deal considering lu is a fantastic goalie still in his prime and I want to win now. I think the lu contract thing is blown way out of proportion and anyone that thinks lu (or any CBO) will sign cheaply just because they have extra income is kidding themselves. - moylander
There's no way in Hell I'd trade for Luongo's deal. If he's bought out, I'm all over it. But no trades. |

Listen, just because you don't like Italians plalying for the organIzation doesn't mean you quit Flyerdom.

How are we getting that team? - Deasr1
From what I can tell Braydon Coburn, and every prospect/ draft pick the Flyers will own from now until the end of time. |

Better a 5 yr 30 mil shiny new contract or a trade where Toronto actually picks up the larger portion of the recapture? I doubt Lou signs cheaply. Do the math. |

Obviously, the blog I wrote for www.thehockeyguys.net was why the Flyers bought out Bryz. Please read my next blog "Why JSaq should get $5mm tax free" - Jsaquella
I liked your input on the roundtable, sir. You going to be doing this somewhat often? |

It would surprise me, somewhat. There's no need to do it right now. The markets for him are drying up, maybe Tampa maybe Florida....who else is going to trade for him. |

I don't know, but this kind of huge deal and then getting rid of the guy two years later is the kind of thing that would get managers fired in any other line of business.
I like Homer but think he is on very thin ice at this point. |

I wouldn't offer him a ton. I'd offer him around $4.5-$5mm for 3 or 4 years. He says no, I sign another guy or trade for Halak or whomever....I'm not married to Luongo...I like him a lot, but he's not my holy grail |

sounds extreme - Don'tForgetTocchet
Im 26 years old, I have seen them reach the finals twice (winning only 2 games combined) and continually make rash decisions. Lugo would be a HUGE mistake. Be patient. |
