The Flyers have a great opportunity to be smart this summer. Here's hoping they learn from their new obligation in paying Bryz for the next 14 years to temper their aggression and maybe try to build through the draft a bit more effectively - Jsaquella
Lol, you say this right after they just got done aggressively targeting Streit.
I really hope they wait until after the market opens to pull the trigger on a goaltender... but I wouldn't be surprised to see them do something drastic like give up assets for Miller or pick up Luongo on CBO waivers, or something. |

Kypreos is on sportsnet saying that the Flyers don't have a lot of options for Goal. He said they could call Regeir and see if they can work out something for Miller in a trade, but John Shannon says that they are not interested in Luongo. I believe that, but only in a trade scenario. They didn't address if he's bought out. Kypreos says that the team just can't get it right between the pipes.. so true.. |

They won't, and I don't know that they should. They are now like a gamblaholic in AC with millions to spend. They aren't going to put it in the bank to collect interest. They'll make some moves. We'll see what happens and how it works out. |

Yep, overpaid goalie who runs his mouth in the media and is a bit of a headcase.
PERFECT for Philly. - Jsaquella

Ryan Miller is the walking definition of butthurt.
Hey, I wonder if he is related to Randy? |

Am I crazy in thinking Tim Thomas would be a great fit on what would probably be a one year deal? Bring Tim Thomas in as the starter with Mason backing up for a year and hope Mason develops and can take the job next year? |

Thomas has no interest in helping his backups out. Its documented. That's not a good situation for Mason. |

Streit fills a need and didn't cost much in way of assets. Aggression is OK...overaggressive stupidity is not |

Dear God what a potential mess that could be. I'd rather resign Leighton and have Mason start. |

@ToddCordell Darren Dreger said Ray Emery is definitely a possibility for the #Flyers. Said they believe in Mason but want someone to go with him. - isaiah520
Yes, please. Won't cost anything but $$, and not a whole lot either. |

They probably won't, but definitely should. It's great that they have the desire to win and the passion to win...The Bryzgalov saga shows us that that sort of passion can really create massive issues.
They will be paying a guy $23mm over 14 years to not play hockey for them. They were overaggressive and bid against their own interests. |

There is a chance that the off-season market for top-4 dmen is tempered by the 10% reduction... if guys like Hainsey and Whitney end up signing affordable, shorter-term deals, Homer's going to look pretty silly again. |

It's very possible, although I'm not sold. The Isles were offering similar money to Streit (reportedly 3 years not 4), so I doubt that we see teams not paying high prices...cap might have dropped, but the floor still exists. |

Personally, I don't care that they have to pay Bryzgalov over 14 years. That's their problem and won't affect me as a fan. They have some Cap space now, and I want them to use it to make smart moves to make the team better in the long run.

With the Bryzgalov and Briere buyouts, Flyers are now $4.18 million under the $64.3 million cap ceiling for next season. If Meszaros, a UFA next summer, goes in a salary-dump trade, there is then $8.18 million in cap space. Timonen (a $6 million cap hit) is likely to retire next summer.
In other words, cap space to re-sign Read (after Giroux, B. Schenn and Couturier) is not an issue -- but that's going to depend on what other moves happen between now and then. - bmeltzer
OK is that w/ or w/out pronger on LTIR and his 4.9.....if we have 4.8M we need to sign a goalie and some other parts....did anyone add streit # into the mix yet....MjL your slackin.....show us what we got to spend so Homer can spend it b4 it burns a hole in those pockets!!!!!! |

Which is how the Wideman deal happened last offseason and screwed everyone. |

No to Thomas.
No to Leighton.
Emery's hip is a big question mark, one year deal maybe?
Trade for Hiller or Halak will be expensive, for a team that can't afford to give up a lot of assets.
Theodore? Not too excited about that.
And I am not the biggest fan of how Lavi runs a two goalie system.

Doesn't take into consideration who they wanted. And just because Hainsey and Whitney would sign affordable shorter term deals. Doesn't mean that Streit would've. That's a misconception.

So far so good, step one is complete: buy out Briere and Bryz
Step 2 is done too: get another Dman who can generate some offense (Streit)
Now hopefully the following happens:
Mez is moved for whatever they can get
With the 11th pick they grab Pulock or Ristolainen or they trade down a bit, get another 2nd and if Pulock and Ristolainen are gone, they grab Morrissey.
They do not spend big bucks on an aging goalie or aging forwards
They slip a tranquilizer in Mr. Snider's metamucil and continue to build patiently through the draft. |

I have no problem with Emery on a two year deal. It gives them a decent option should Mason struggle and will be a good environment for Mason to learn. Saves a lot of cap room too. |

I'd stress the smart part more than the spend it part. You might not get any awards for having unspent cap space, but You also get no reward for spending the most cash. |
