Outside of the NYI, none of those teams is in the Flyers division, though, so they won;t necessarily affect their ability to make playoffs. - Jsaquella
yea, not sure how that works this yr |

they seem to be attempting build cohesion, imo. Refused to trade top young guys for Weber and Bernier. Hung onto their young assests by singing Streit. - Crimsoninja
Exactly. They said the reason the went that route was that all it cost them was money, no other assets, and they keep their young players. Yes, in hindsight Bryz was a mistake. But I give them credit for taking the opportunity to get out from under it while they could. They're not perfect, but they tend to do a decent job fixing their mistakes when they make them. Still rather have Holmgren than just about 99% of the other GMs in the league. |
|
|
|
im confused.. do you want them to build cohesion with the young team... or make moves to try to accellerate the process?
i feel like no matter what you'll say they have no plan - Crimsoninja
They can do both. Build around the kids with some smart transactions and drafting. |

They'll play the Wings and Jackets more often, so that will fit. |

It's all about winning a Cup. Making the playoffs isn't good enough. - PLindbergh31
well, unfortunately they can't go from where they're at now to a cup contender w/o going to the casino and gambling again. they need another yr or 2 to develop their younger plyrs while adding other pieces. so if they're just a solid plyoff team that's trending back upward, that'll be fine for nxt yr by me. |

I'd like to see what Holmgren would do if there weren't the giant gorilla coming in and throwing things periodically to force moves. Go get Blah. Go get Blah. Don't ever plan because I will come in and tell you what the hell to do! |

Yeah, this is what I am starting to think.... react react react.. seems to be the MO.. zero plan... If we are out of the playoffs this year.. I will call for Lavy and Homer to be fired... - Hextall271
So declaring that they're keeping the youth core in tact this offseason was a reaction thing? Refusing to trade their best youth players for Weber was just a reaction to losing Pronger? Trading essentially worthless assets to fill an immediately important team need was just a stupid reaction and overpayment by Homer? These accusations are a bit incorrect imo, as they obviously have a plan and they are obviously trying to stick to it. |

I think that Coke Zero is excellent. I like it 1000000000000000000000x better than Diet Coke. Oh well this should be an interesting period for the Flyers. |

I know. I understand that. Although I'm as impatient as anyone, they have to build towards it. Making the playoffs is the first step.
If they strike out these next two weeks it's setting them back further. |

You must be talking about Snider. I have not yet seen or read anything 100% linking him to any moves. Bryz there was speculation, Richards/Carter?,...?
I'm just curious where the proof is that Snider is really pulling all the strings. |

I'd still rather have an owner that isn't afraid to spend the big bucks. A more miserly owner might've been unwilling to buy out Bryz due to the finances involved in the buyout. |

I think it's safe to say if Snider wasn't the driving force behind Bryzgalov that Holmgren would have been poop canned. GM's don't get to make 40 million dollar mistakes. |

Try goalie carousel, doesn't work...Trade Carter and Richards to make space and go for Bryz.. Have Bryz and Bob, trade Bob.. Bryz doesn't work, trade for Mason buy Bryz out. Need to acquire another tender. |

Homer is a good GM. He has a weakness in the contracts he signs, but he's good at most other things. Getting a new GM doesn't guarantee that you get a better GM, and I don't think we'd necessarily be getting a better GM by firing Homer. |

Holland yes. Maybe Schiarelli. The others are just benefiting from lots of crappy seasons in previous years and higher/luckier draft picks. |
