I'll argue that EDM's the worst team in the league until I die, my friend
- TheNugeIsHuge

Fine, then I'll have my casket with "Oilers < Sabres circa. 2013" written all over it.

find me 5 teams with a 2nd line centre that puts up 65P.

Also Gags was on pace for 65 this year.

Size is a huge deal in the NHL and so is FO%. If I am building a team and one of my top 6 centers and he doesn't score at least 65pts consistently I don't even bother.

Center is the most important position in the league and you just won't win with guys like Ganger.

He did have an excellent season for the oilers last year and I am not sure how his 2 way play is but thats my opinion of the matter.

I'll name you the teams from 2012 with their 2C putting up 65+P.

his two way play is poor. he broke out offensively, and has heaps of heart and character to make up for some of his obvious deficiencies.

I don't think you're way off, but, if the nuge can put on some muscle and become the two way star 1st line center we hope, I think this takes alot of heat off gags. surrounding him with yaks and hall would make up for a lot of that too.

he's not completely ideal, but I think he can absolutely be adequate enough going forward depending on a few things

I mean that's a good deal, but EDM just isn't a good fit. Plus people here say Miller doesn't want to go to EDM

Colorado definitely has the worst D of the 3. The way they've been coached has prevented it from being a huge problem in the past. Erik Johnson had like 4 points this year. I don't even know who they're #2 was they're all no names.

They should take Seth Jones. Jones, Barrie, Elliott'd help solidify that weak blue

- TheNugeIsHuge

BUST

Too soon?

If/when they trade Statsny, it would be useful to pick the best player, regardless of position. You get MacKinnon and then build the back in later rds/free agency.

Colorado is winning a cup before anyone else in the NW. Time to cry

EDM shouldn't separate Hall from Nuge-Eberle. Together their possession was like 55% compared to 43% separated

How much do you guys value Berglund?
- LetsGoBuffalo75

To give you an idea, he was second on the team in goal scoring. So... a fair bit.

For people asking about Blues players... it's pretty simple.

Blues would like to:

Get a playmaking, top 6 center without a bad cap hit

and/or

Upgrade at goalie by trading Halak plus Russell & perhaps mid tiered prospect

OR

Just keep the team together. Give Hitch his first full camp, trust that one of our 3 goalies who is a ? for next year will come through.

Only way we get away from that bottom option is if someone offers a trade that doesn't open up any large holes or downgrades on our current roster and makes us better long term without adding much salary. Unlikely any trade does that.

I agree, just trying about the fit, but that is what I see the value is.

They are speculating with saying that. Miller said he wouldn't set this organization back by blocking all sorts of trades.

good post.

forgetting potential and age etc.

in terms of talent on the backend in 2013 of these three abysmal defences.
id say;

buffalo

Edmonton
Colorado

I think edm and colo are very close though, with buffalo a solid step ahead of both. their problem was more up front imo.
not to say our bottom 6 forwards arent absolutely terrible as well though!

- hugefemale dog77

EJ and Myers both had awful seasons so we will have to see how that turns out.

idk. If Minnesota cleans up their depth a little. They've got, IMO, the best D man in the league this year. Top 3 prospect system.

I think they've got the best shot. Then a tie between COL and EDM.

But at some point COL and EDM are going to have to deal one of their studs (I don't consider stastny a stud) for that franchise D man

Good trade. Have to be a mid-level prospect and Colorado would have to admit defeat w/ Varlamov.
Why not just send Varly back in lieu of the prospect?

- FLflames34

I could do that. Just tough because Col gave up a boat load to get him.

I think spreading the wealth and making us a deeper team makes us a much more dangerous in the long run and much tougher to match up with.

putting some size, grit, net presence, but maybe a little less talent and pricey beside the nuge and ebs is in the best interests of them for a bunch of reasons imo.

depth is paramount in todays nhl

try being an oiler fan your entire life. This last year was the worst.
Media pre season "EDM's young talent will explode this year, I bet they make the playoffs."
Media post season "EDM really needs to bolster that defence if they ever want to make the playoffs"

if spreading the wealth makes the wealth have negative value, it shouldn't be spread.

Hall-Nuge-Eberle belong together. EDM needs to deal for a guy like Kulemin, who can play tough comp, to play along side gags and yak

Miller, Sekera, 3rd
for
Stastny, 2nd, prospect?

- ImThatGuy

I would pass only because I don't really think this trade makes either team better enough to warrant it.

I think the 2nd has some solid value being the 32n't but mostly when/if we trade stastny we HAVE to get a top 6 winger or improve on defense.

If we are going to trade for D then I think the Avs would want to go with either a younger risk/reward type players like Gardiner or one of equal age and skill like Phaneuf. Not that like like those either but more so an example.

Also it is still too early to give up on Varly.

this actually bothered me right from the start. retarded media choosing them cause they were the sexy pick.
imo, if you knew much about the oilers, anything more than battling or a longshot for 8th, shoulda been pretty obvious.

that one bonehead from cnnsi had them in the top 3 for preseason power rankings!!?

and of course this then spills over to oiler fans being called out for saying our team was gonna be so great. which for the most part is a total fallacy
