For one Oshie doesn't play center he plays right wing on the first line. Two no way in hell is Miller worth him or Tarasenko and a first. Maybe Ian Cole and a 2nd tops is all wed give you. Also if you watched the LA / St Louis series our lack of being able to score of huge chances is what killed us not Elliott's pretty solid goaltending.
Oh, I have my sources. Really awesome ones. - RynoBull
If u say so...
What if Vanek gets hurt? He does get "banged up" a lot
Then we can't move him
I'll bet Florida wishes they traded Weiss before last season started
I know I wish we had traded Briere & Drury...
Think of the return we could've gotten?!
Also, no one mentions the constant distractions that the Sabres will face all year until the deadline if they don't trade Miller and Vanek. Questions about if they want to re-sign, why don't they want to re-sign? How do they feel about being traded? The talk has been crazy leading up until the draft, if they're not dealt this summer then it will carry on all year.
Trade 'em and continue the rebuild - GilPerreault11
Yes supply and demand. The supply THIS offseason for 30 goal scorers puts Vanek as the cream of the crop, the demand for 30 goal scorers is always there. Next deadline the supply increases
Marleau
Michalek
Kessel
Ryan
Vrbata
Moulsen
Pominville
These are all 30 goal scorers who have expiring contracts next year. What the Sabres have working in their favor right now is that we are in a rebuild and can take advantage of a weak FA class and give a team looking for scoring Vanek at or before a stacked draft on Sunday - OneKaneOneCup
Agree
Plus, I want as many 1st in THIS DRAFT as possible
Anyone who poops on Vanek is nuts
The guy is a really good player
BUT
If we are rebuilding, it makes a lot more sense to trade him than it does to keep him around
Plus, it sounds like he doesn't wanna be here He supposedly turned down 8mil per for 8yrs...
Cya!
We'll take back a bunch of picks & prospects that we can add to our next "core" - jdfitz77

The Sabres can't rebuild without Veteran Skilled players. If they do they will have exactly what happened when Drury and Briere left. A bunch of kids skating around and the fanbase hoping for someone to start leading the team. Maybe they can get someone from another team to fill that leadership void, it worked so well before!
Vanek is a really good player. great player actually. But he isnt consistent enough to be the best player on this team that we need to rely on, and if he's gonna walk at years end then you have to move him while you can. If he wanted to resign at a reasonable contract, I would like to see him retire a Sabre, I would hate watching him play for another team, - OneKaneOneCup
I agree. Vanek is not the player you build your team around, he is a good player but he goes unnoticed a lot. On a contending team, he is like Marian Hossa. Nice, solid player but not Patrick kane, or Jonathan Toews.

Agreed, he would look great playing 2nd fiddle to Ovi or Tavares though. If he retires a Sabre I will not complain, if he walks, I'll (frank)ing be pissed

Even if that's not true,
The comments I've heard from Vanek makes it sound like he's ready to move on
But even if not,
What's to say he is the LEADER we need to guide these young kids?
I do see your point,
But he's also banged up all the time in the 2nd half of seasons as well, making him far less productive... The guys not getting younger, so I expect it would only get worse... And I don't wanna give a guy that is likely to be ineffective most 2nd halves a big$$$ deal into his late30s...
That seems like a horrible idea to me

IMO and like I said, if he resigns I won't complain, take advantage of a team looking to make that offseason statement trade. Look to the Islanders, they might feel Vanek can put them into contender status and they have a ton of good young talent

The big mistake the Sabres will make is not trading Vanek if he is not going to resign and they lose him for nothing, like they did with Briere and Drury. You don't build strong teams without obtaining eite talent. Sometimes teams just haveto hit rock bottom to start to build themselves up stronger. I'm sick of mediocrity and just winning enough to draft 10-13 every friggen year and get nowhere.

I want to see what he can do without Ruff's terrible decision making
