Doesn't Phaneuf have to be on our team before he can re-sign here. Are you assuming he will get ttraded here this offseason and after his current contract is up will not want to re-sign? - RynoBull
Todd thinks we should trade for him
I think it's a horrible idea bc he wouldn't re-sign here
And bc we should be adding young assets,
Not trading them away |

What?!
Richards was a free agent at 31
Phaneuf, who u propose might be willing to re-sign here, will be 29 when his next deal will start
and Phaneuf is OLDER than Suter and Parise
Apparently facts don't matter to u - jdfitz77
Phaneuf is younger.
Parise DOB is 7/28/84
Suter DOB is 1/21/85
Phaneuf DOB is 4/10/85

I'm all for bringing him in as long is doesn't involve trading our 1st or one of our top prospects.
It'd be interesting to see what kind of contract he'd ask for next year, I can't imagine him making 6.5 mil but then again you look at what Gonchar got... |

Not a terrible idea but we have tried bringing in the Veteran Defense leadership over and over with marginal success. |

2010-Jan-31 Dion Phaneuf Traded from Calgary Flames with Fredrik Sjostrom and Keith Aulie to Toronto Maple Leafs for Jamal Mayers, Niklas Hagman, Matthew Stajan and Ian White
IMO it will take more than the spare parts it took to get him out of Calgary. |

I think we need to sign UFA Ryan O'Bryne or resign Pardy..
we just need a physical stay at home guy. |

I stand corrected
But saying we should sign Phaneuf, but calling Suter & Parise old, well....
The only guy that was "old" in the group was Doan
And I'd say that most on here still wanted us to get him
None of this matters,
Bc there's very little chance we trade for Phaneuf
And even smaller chance he'd re-sign here
It's a terrible idea |

garth must be looking at Hockeyy Insiderr and Sabres Front Office for new blog material...
This website is probably 90% dominated by Philly, Buffalo, EDM, and TML fans.
He literally just puts a blog together of us and one of their fan bases to get hits and comments.
Everyone just falls into it like sheep. |

U love O'Byrne... Hahaha
I don't mind him, but I'd rather have McNabb playing
Right now, I see our defense looking like:
Ehrhoff-Myers
Sekera-Weber
McNabb-Pysyk
-Sulzer or Pardy re-signed
Ruhwedel starts in rochester
If we were to trade a defenseman or two though,
Then I'd look at bringing him in |

I don't "Love" O'Bryne.. but he fits the bill of what we need and is available.
A lot of people misconstrue who I really like as a player to what is the need/demand. |

Don't forget the MTL fans. Engles' blogs normally rack up at least 1,000 comments per blog though often more. |

more than anything id loooove the attitude he would bring. its one thing to get it from a 5-6 dman (weber), another all together from a top pairing guy (which dion would be here).
he would allow Ehrhoff to be a 3-4 guy and take some pressure off him.
a line-up including Ott, foligno, kaleta, tropp, zemgus (maybe), scott, dion, weber, mcnabb would go a long way towards changing the soft culture built up in that locker room.
hell- we might even actually have an identity... |
