It's funny how the deal isn't even official and we're already discussing viable strategies for how to dispose of him early... Flyers - Tomahawk
We all know he's going to get Flying Ball Rot or Chronic deltoid fatigue and spend two years on LTIR |

Phaneuf is involved with trade talks, would anyone trade for him? - arichardson22

I have questions on how he will perform starting game 1, let alone in years 3 and 4.
I like his puck moving ability and PP prowess, but very concerned about him playing the defensive side of the puck. He doesn't have the type of skill set that the city is going to take to. |

I'm a huge Ayn Rand fan, which i'm sure most people on this board are allergic to her, but I was watching a documentary not too long on her and Ed Snyder was on there talking about her. He was a huge fan. Made me love him more. - Flyersgod
I read Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, We the Living, etc. Liked them all, and there were definitely interesting/thought-provoking (and questionable) ideas and concepts throughout. It just never went any further than that for me. It never occurred to me to view Rand's fictional works as anything more than that. |

You need to go back and watch some games from the '04 and earlier... most of the bottom-4 dmen were just pathetic with the puck. - Tomahawk
Its a different game today. In '04 it was the first year the red-line was taken out for 2-line passes. Defenseman didn't have to make near as long passes before, so of course they were going to be worse at it.
Perspective my friend. |

What would it take for us to get two top-15 picks this season and draft two defencemen like Nurse and Pulok or something else similar to that ? |

Schneider isn't exactly young. Id rather just get a UFA at that price - Just5
He just turned 27 in March (18th) and he's only got two years left on his deal before becoming a UFA...what would be the difference? Not having to give up an asset obviously, but he's NOT old by any means. |

Does anyone else think its funny the Flyers have been the busiest team in the NHL so far, and yet they really havent done anything yet other then trade for Streits rights?
Technically Briere and Bryz are still on the team. And Streit hasnt signed. |

Well, if Friedman is right, that trade won't include Couturier.
15. Flyers fans live in constant paranoia over what Philly will do with its young players. Maybe this will help. I've found a few teams that have asked about Couturier over the last year or so. Holmgren refuses to do it, with one possible exception. I'm not including it because I can't prove it, but if true, it would have brought a strong (and young) return. |

schneider hasnt impressed me enough to want to trade one of our young centers for him when there are soo many other options out there. |

As much as I wanted a quiet summer, I had no expectation of one. I expect a lot of stuff to happen. |

Streit signing is an absolute WIN !
the guy is a hockey stud and will play top minutes in all situations just like Timonen. I'm extremely happy we got him locked in for 4 years. He solidifies our defence in many many ways. Team captain for Swiss team that beat Canada in Olympics. Team captain on the Isles. He's a couple years younger than Timonen but while Kimmo has played 1,015 games, Streit has only played 491.
He just rocked this past season with 27 pts in 48 reg games and 5pts in 6 playoff games. He's actually slightly taller and more weight than Kimmo.
and the cherry on the top, we didnt have to give up anything in trade.
How can you call this anything but a massive win for a deam that has obvious defensive issues? - MrBigglesworth
Streit cannot play top minutes in all situations. He is not a player that you want to use on the PK, or against top lines. He is an average at best defender. Very good offensively, but not very good defensively. |
