I saw you mention this yesterday Jsaq. If they didnt match last year would you have been ok with that contract? Only reason I ask is that it seems we are in a better position $ wise this offseason and would be able to absorb that with a few minor moves. Just curious since we were the ones who came up with the contract to begin with.

The NHL wants to prevent cap circumvention. I agree it is stupid. If somebody wants to trade an asset to get a lower cap hit, what's the harm? They already allow teams to trade money.

Imagine he comes over, plays a couple years, then gets hurt and retires. Or even dies somehow. Then you have a ton of dead cap space to worry about.

Too much risk on the recapture provisions.
