Q. When you look back to 2011 bringing Ilya in here by a trade and then signing him to that deal, his agent said last week in an interview that in more or less words that the Flyers were essentially bidding against themselves. There weren’t many teams that were looking for a starting goaltender. You say that today is a business decision with Ilya. Do you have any regrets in terms of the negotiation and how it was structured?
A. No, no. What’s the sense of looking back? Today we look forward. I’m not going to look back. I admit it was a costly move, but we gotta move forward. No sense looking back.
I dunno Homer, to maybe learn something from your mistakes and to be more mindful of the market in the future? |

I will take a dump in my pants in the middle of work if we give up Coburn, Read, and the 11th overall pick....
I will then drive to Jersey and push Homer off his bike and burn down the WFC.
I will set my Giroux Jersey on file, during the first pick of the entry draft, and fling myself down the stadium stairs.

this particular exchange has been bugging me all day. perhaps it's why they've failed to win a cup since 1975. might want to take a look at that. |

I don't think holmer wanted that deal. I'll give him a pass on that.
Sigh. Just been thinking a lot lately about the good old boy network as it pertains to the flyers. Snider, broad street bullies, its all gotten so tired |

ntc/nmc handed out to players who are not in the core
35+yr old contracts
throwing in draft picks to deal away players for salary cap relief
trading draft picks for aging ufa rentals
what's to learn? |

I didn't take that quote quite so literally.
I chose to hear that as a subordinate not throwing his boss under the bus.
Also, that he didn't feel the need to discuss it with the press. |

that's probably what was behind his answer, but i genuinely question if there's any learning going on there. |

They are so lucky that the CBO's were part of the new CBA.... I shudder to think what they would have had to resort to w/o them.

If that was case Couturier would have been traded for JayBo and Schenn for a 2nd round pick!!

Sometime in the recent past Clarkie made a Voodoo doll of Homer and has been in secret control of his body... I think it started with the offer to Suter and Parise and the OS to Weber.... totally Clarke moves.
not to mention bringing back ex-flyers.. Fedotenko...Gagne... It has Clarke written ALL over it. |

Under the old CBA, I would have been fine with that deal. Now, with cap recapture, deals like that terrify me. Anything happens to him, they'd be screwed for years. Imagine he comes over, plays a couple years, then gets hurt and retires. Or even dies somehow. Then you have a ton of dead cap space to worry about.
Too much risk on the recapture provisions. - Jsaquella
I feel like the NHL wouldn't count a contract against the cap for a player who was dead. Hopefully it never comes up. |
