I might be the only one unwilling to part with Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Mason, The Schenn Brothers, Couturier and Gustafsson. Read is the guy I see going to add anything trade wise. - dingo8urbaby
Probably the most likely in a trade is Read. But I'd trade anybody if it made the team better.

I'm sure that will be a popular move in the locker room. - hereticpride
I think Phanuef hates Hartnell but I think Ryan Miller hates the entire team. |

I don't think the Rangers have a better youth core than we do. You're undervaluing our youth. - JAKEw1234
It's comparable. They have better youth on D for sure. |

I think that any Leafs deal would have to include Reilly or Gardiner coming to Pittsburgh. Phaneuf is getting mentioned on twitter, but that doesn't help the Pens cap, which is primary reason to move Letang now, to avoid possible offer sheet - Jsaquella
I agree, there is no way Phaneuf is being traded for Letang. Shero would want a d-man he can control at a relatively low cap hit for year's to come. As a Flyers fan, I would be thrilled to see the Pens lose Staal and Letang in consecutive years. |

I understand bringing in Bobby Ryan but I cannot solve this D. |

I just get stunned when people compare a UFA deal to a RFA deal. It's not quite apples and oranges, but it's oranges and tangerines. - Jsaquella
I may have touched off this topic with my post about shattenkirk making less than coburn/mez not sure??? If it was me my point was coburn was restricted ( I believe) when he signed his extension a few years back. Homer tends to pay a little too much sometimes in those situations compared to what slot of other teams do. That was the point I was thinking. Wasn't comparing rfa to ufa signings as they are different. I agree with jsaq that the streit deal is about right for his status and I actually like it even with the risk compared to giving kimmo 6 mil a year. Now if we had to give up a ton to get streit I'd be pissed but that wasn't the case |

Bringing in Bobby Ryan should be way down the bottom of the list.

Also, Pens beat guy Rob Rossi says the Letang trade talks are heating up, Toronto going hard after him. - Jsaquella
If only he played for anyone else we'd be all over it |

Coburn was heading into his UFA period when he re-signed.
Often when Homer overpays, it's to get guys who are going to be RFAs to give up a few years of their UFA eligibility. |

Snider supports Homer...I guess as long as the flyers have a good team and win % every year then thats good enough. Snider certainly wont see another stanley cup in his lifetime. |

Good point. Imagine if Coburn was UFA this year? As bad of a year as he had he'd be making Streit money! (joke, but no really) |

Coburn was restricted, but the deal extends into his Free Agency years. And giving up those Free Agent years is a bargaining chip. What's a solid top 4 defenseman going to cost in Free Agency in a year or two? I think it's a misconception that he pays too much. Due to a lack of understanding of the NHL Salary structure.

This is your second time saying this. Not only do I disagree, I am hearing no ideas for salutions. At least Ryan adds size. Last time Homer wanted a Hammer, he got one. |

But what would it take to get Ryan? Decent chance he signs here in two years anyway (allegedly). There are certainly other options out there that are cheaper and wouldn't cost assets in a trade. Bickell, Horton, Stalberg. It's a tier down, but I'm not giving up the farm for Ryan just yet. |

If Coburn was a free agent this July, he would get a deal similar to Carle even with his off year last year, I have little doubt. |

Well I guess Horton wouldn't be much cheaper... but you don't have to trade for him. |

If the Flyers don't address other more important needs. Ryan is going to spend large chunks of his ice time. Covering his point in his own defensive zone.
And are you prepared to give up some of the players that you said you didn't want to trade earlier? |

Horton is gonna get more then what Ryan's cap hit is |

To bring in Ryan you have to break up the young core which is not what the plan should be at this time, unless it's a young defenseman to add to the core. They aren't going to trade Ryan for Mez and 2 second rounders. |

It's too early for definative solutions. There are a bunch of buyouts, extensions.. that are still yet to happen. Patience. |

How do you address these other needs? I have already asked every question I can think of to solve what D problem we may have. Homer might not be able to fix it. He couldn't\didn't last year. |
