This is the thing. There aren't gonna be number 1 Dmen bought out. There be no UFAs. No drafted players ready to take on that role. - dingo8urbaby
Not sure what to tell you. Obviously there is a plan. Last summers blueprints were a masterpiece. |

But he has in the past. My concerns with the team are that they need to be a harder team to play against. They need to be much better as a team defensively. And they need to improve the mobility and puck skills of the defense. Adding a top scoring Winger would be great. But those other issues should be addressed first. If they are, and they can swing a deal for someone like Ryan. That's great. - MJL
I could easily be wrong but if we wanna keep these young guys, I don't see it. |

You can bet they are, but a lot is going to shake out this weekend and then again I believe on the 5th. That's one reason I like the Streit signing. He gives the Flyers another asset without losing much as far as assets go. So
Timo-Mez-Streit-Gus
Schenn-Coburn-Grossman
That puts Gervais and Lauridsen at options 8 and 9.
No need for the Foster/Walker/Huskins. - jstross
That's not a bad defense, if utilized properly...now will Laviolette do that or try to shoehorn it all into his "system" |

A plan is usually for the long term. One off season does not encompass an entire plan of building a team. One off season where things don't go according to plan, doesn't doom a team forever. |

It's comparable. They have better youth on D for sure. - cmr.266
Yes on D but that's it. We have the forwards by a good margin and we actually have a young goalie as they do not. It makes me realize that I'd be 100% for a trade with BSchenn for a great young Dman. BSchenn + for a Brodin or a Hamilton type guy. I'd be all for that. |

if they keep the same system they used down the stretch (by stretch i mean the games they pissed me off royally by winning once they were eliminated), things might be lookin up |

Homer didn't get it done last Summer no two ways about it. I know you don't like Streit, but his skill set was needed. Let's see what happens over the weekend. |

Timonen is starting to look human from a health stand point. Meszaros might as well be a floating head. Streit isn't a great defender and Grossman has question marks too. Gervais just sucks. |

Agreed. They went 11-5 over their last 16 games, beating 9 playoff teams during that stretch, with a defense of Gustafsson, Laurdisen, a half crippled Timonen, Huskins, Gervais and whatever other pieces they could scrape up. |

It's not a bad defense at all if Lavy uses them right and has his forwards help out on defense. Especially with a goalie that can start things up ice instead of a statue. |

kimmo will be used more sparingly this year, mez might be gone, streit is a good puck mover and we needed badly to replace carle, gervais is not bad for a 6th dman. let's be cautiously optimistic and see where this "wild ride" goes. #excited |

Timonen is still going to play over 20 minutes a game. Gervais is likely going to be the 7th defenseman. If not sent to the Phantoms.

Compliance buyout window is now open BUT no buyout can occur until: a) player is put on waivers; b) player clears waivers 24 hrs later. |

FWIW i take the stretch run with a grain of salt. the conspiracy theorist in me thinks teams let us win b/c they knew if we drafted in the top 5 we'd be TROUBLE and we did face a good few b/u goalies |
