He's 34 and on the downside. He fell out of favor in Vancouver and became a distraction there. I doubt he's willing to take a two year deal. If he was, at a modest cap hit I would have some interest, but I don't see that being a likely scenario. - PLindbergh31
How did Luongo become a distraction in Vancouver? |

I don't think HE was a distraction so much his contract is/was. If the contract is good, I don't think he's a "distraction" in the same way a guy like Bryzgalov apparently was. |

Once they trade Mez or Coburn, they will have a ton of cap space. The Flyers are never one to leave open cap space. They also don't have a huge need at any position other than goaltender. I would like them to add to the team, but they could go out and play now with the roster they currently have. - PhillySportsGuy
What do you think of the rumors of Cobrun + 11th pick for bobby ryan? |

No every player has to be offered to the League on Waivers before he can be bought out. Cart before the horse. That is how buyouts work. Now there could be a knew rule where it's different for a CBO versus a nomal buyout. But I'm not aware of that. - MJL
Do we offer them as a sacrafice to the hockey gods. I can see Bettman holding an Axe swinging it down and Bryzgalovs head rolling down the stairs of the NHL office with people cheering. |

The impression I have right now is that no one is untouchable. I'm guess Coburn and/or Mezzy is/are moved. Read would have to stay because of his cap hit unless we got 2 players back at a similar cap hit. I see Read as a player who will get a payday and never live up to it. He's a good 3rd line guy though. - Flyersgod
Read can play all through the lineup. The player he is already , is worth 4M a year. |

at risk of being unpopular (oh wait, i already am), i think tim thomas would be a good fit. i know he's 40 and hasn't played in the nhl in 2 years (1 season), but he was 28 before making his nhl debut and wasn't a starter until he was 32, i think the year off may help him physically, he's just a warrior, the guy battles, a true blue collar type. |

But Read could walk away after this season to free agency because we have more important players to sign (Giroux, Schenn Couts). Trading him would be our best interest, either at draft or even trade deadline this season |

That sucks. You should think about getting a sling box or streaming it from your phone. If your job doesn't require a ton of movement. Sometimes if I work late, I will watch the game on my computer while I do work. - PhillySportsGuy

I think the organization created the distraction. They named him the captain and gave him a huge contract. Then they stripped him of the captaincy and made him a backup with 10 years left on his contract. |

The situation between Luongo and Schneider became a distraction to the team. Not knowing who the # 1 goalie is and having guys constantly rotating has an effect on a team. |

I'm not worried about the loss of favor distraction, I think a lot of that comes with the massive contract. It really comes down to the contract terms. If it's sane, I think he's good option. At the very least, he should understand the kind of pressure that comes with a big market crease. |

Fair points. If he signs for 2 years at a 3 million dollar cap hit, I could live with it. |

I'd rather keep the picks. This team has gotten into trouble because they don't have a pipeline. They are such good drafters in the first round. I wish they would hold on to all of their picks unless a great deal came along.
Plus, I feel Ryan is a luxury at this point. He provides much of the same that the team possesses. Offensive ability but not great in his own end. I don't think he would help the team all that much even if he came here for free. |

I agree. From all that I understand (which may be little, I don't know), I think Luongo is pretty well liked by everyone around him and has dealt with this whole situation pretty well. He got outplayed by a younger, cheaper guy. That doesn't mean Luongo all of a sudden sucks. It just means Vancouver thought Schneider was better, and at the goalie position, someone plays and someone doesn't. |

What about this idea: Coburn and Read for Ryan. We get to keep the 11th pick, which may be more valuable then Read, since Read is free agent after this year, and we have three big players to sign, 4 if Mason shows he is worth extension, Read is gonna get a nice contract elsewhere. |

I can see both sides of this one. I like him as a player, so if they can lock him up to a small contract for 2 years, say 2 years 4 million (Cap hit of 2m).
I'd like to trade him if their is value in the return. He could be used in a package.

I would do that, but the Ducks wouldn't. They believe Ryan should bring back a top prospect. |

If the Flyers trade Coburn, with the health concerns of Meszaros and Grossmann, you are down to Timonen, Schenn, Streit, and Gustafsson on the backend, with next to no depth behind that. Would leave the Flyers paper thin on the blueline. |
